The Wild Ride was filmed in Contra Costa County where I was raised and now reside after spending many years in Southern California. I first watched this movie for to see the landscape as a reminder of my childhood during the 1950s. My dad used to take me to the race track featured in the movie. It's long gone. One of the scenes is at the Pioneer Inn in Clayton, CA. The building is still here so it was a bit of fun to see the town from back in the day. It was filmed here, they say, because the director was teaching at the local community college (Diablo Valley College) which is still here are going strong. So, the movie is pretty horrible unless you want to see what the area looked like back then OR you are a Jack Nicholson fan. If the latter, this movie he plays a rebellious punk and establishes the baseline for his bad ass smurky film persona. It's worth watching for that alone if you can get through the bad quality and horrible dialog. Make some popcorn and give it a try.

Cuckoo trivia: I grew up on the very piece of land where the original novel was written by Kesey. His cottage, along with several others, were dozed in the early '60s, to make way for 3 new ranch houses. His lot was the center of the 3, former address 9 Perry Lane, Menlo Park CA. Our family bought the new house that went up in its place, new house number 1931.

I need to see that movie again, it's been decades.
