I had one who was just being a jerk. I found out when I happened to see a friend of hers out and about one day and we started discussing my frustration with her always being late. The friend told me that she knew she was being late and just didn't care. I text though and generally it's something minimal like "hey sorry i'll be late a few mins trying to park haha"
I'm not horrible with timing except when I need to park, I always forget how long it can take for me to park because I always end up losing my car if I don't park very close to the door

Plus you don't turn into a doormat by being nice/amicable on the first date. Since you know what a doormat is I'm going to assume you know how to tell when she's trying to play you as a doormat, at which point your exit strategy shines.

I dated a girl who "had a hard time getting out the door on time" every fucking time we went anywhere. Anyone can hit a schedule snag once in a while, but when it's happening consistently it's rude and insulting. A "great girl" won't do that to you.
