My next Blind Barrels tasting showed up at work yesterday. I don't recall even being notified it was on the way, so it was a pleasant surprise!
Still trying to find a bottle of the RICE mash that was in the last set.

The guy at the local shop near my nephews house calls me uncle too. He knows I’ve had my eye on this. Made a pretty good cash deal

Joined Blind Barrels tasting club and this was in the first group I got. Best of the 4. Tried to buy immediately but was sold out. Back in stock so I got one for me and one for BIL. Tennessee RICE mash!

Louisiana, not Tennessee but glad to see some love for J.T. Meleck!
If you ever get a chance, try to find their single barrels. Super interesting whisky |

For my birthday on Saturday I got a bottle of Jack, a bottle of Papa's Pilar rum, and a bottle of Codigo 1530 tequila. I sampled a few shots of Papa's while helping wife make posole, then sipped the Codigo straight from the bottle the rest of the night while eating posole and cake.

Pure Commercial Plug -
Friends of mine have a small Scotch whisky label under which they bottle hand-selected casks at cask strength. A new set of four offerings has just hit the West Coast. Available at K&L and perhaps elsewhere under the "Rites of Passage" name. I've not tried the new set, but have tried prior bottlings, and they are excellent. Of the new set I've ordered the "Secret Speyside" (Glenfarclas) as a little bird told me it's the value play of the bunch (at $129.99). The 20-year old Orkney is too pricey for me at $320 but for those of you who play in that league, it's also very highly recommended. Check them out if barrel-select Scotch bottlings are your thing! |
