A manual!!! Now lets just hope enough people man up and by it as opposed to the 74 speed automatic...
I'll be in the market for one in a few years, but I'll be looking for a CPO'd one, so I guess I'm not helping the cause.... |

The F10 M5 looks fantastic. I have seen it up close, and in person (and in motion) driving at The Welt. Gorgeous.
I have lots of respect for the E60 M5, especially since I got a hot lap in one at PCD last week. Jeez that V10 can scream! But the SMG shifted so hard it felt like you were being kicked by a mule. And the styling of the E60 does not look very good, especially compared to the F10. This attached pic (from earlier in the thread) highlights the funky styling of the E60. Just too soft, and weak proportions compared to the newer version. Sorry E60 owners, this just looks flaccid. |

I still like the e60 FAR better. Obviously the F10 M5 looks better than a normal F10, and has incredible performance, but it still looks so old-man-ish.
The new 5 and 3 seem to have left the sporty factor behind and instead take styling cues from the current Merc snooze-fest lines. And don't even get me started on that big overhanging nose on all the new 7, 5, and 3's. Yuck. And to this day I don't understand why people think the e60 was one of the worst looking BMWs made. To me it's mean, sporty as hell, and the 550's and M5 can wipe the floor with most sport coupes out there. Maybe someone can PM me and explain this to me. I'll admit I'm biased because I have an e60 550, but I'm willing to listen. Last edited by mestes1999; 12-21-2011 at 09:28 AM.. |

I drove the new M5 in Spain last month and the car looks great in person and drives even better!
I own an E39 M5 and have spent many miles behind the wheel of my friend's E60 M5 and I can tell you the F10 M5 is a major improvement in all areas. It is simply the best M5 ever made. There have been many posts on this board both positive and negative about the new M5. I say drive the car then decide, you will not be disappointed. Best, Gene |

Thanks...good to hear. My dilemma is that I have currently an '11 'M3 vert....77 here today in FL and what a joy to hear that V8 rumble, wind in my hair, tunes on...etc. I loev the M product. I am seriously contemplating the new beast of an M5 when lease ends. While I know i'll miss the 'vert, it's time for a car with 4 real seats for the growing kids. I love the performance stats of the new 5, but the styling still has me concerned. Looks somewhat "flat" in the pics online. so, i take comfort that "pics don't do it justice."
what was the stock sound like? Did it "fart" like in some of the early vids? |

Yup...I have boosters there now but, its getting kinda tight plus, the older I get, the more I feel I am outgrowing (mentally an status wise) the M3 M5 seems like next logical choice for me, so I am hoping that the styling is appealing
