I wish them a speedy recovery. Surviving a 300 kph crash is a testament to good engineering.

I hope the warranty covers everything.

I strongly wish whoever did this to you goes to jail for a long time!

Hard to believe but sometimes the worst looking accident cars are the more survivable ones. In this case it appears the car was tumbling/rolling side over side, basically slowly dissepating all its forward energy as it tumbles. Often times drivers walk away from these kinds of accidents believe it or not.

The worst accidents survival wise are the ones where all forward energy is stopped very quickly or instantly, the car may not even look that bad, but the human body can't absorb the sudden deceleration.

Very true Jason, the BMW salesman (Mike may he RIP) that sold me my first Z4 in 2010 lost his life on a wet 2 lane wet road overtaking another car. According to eye witnesses his rear end of the car gave away and he slammed into a tree. He passed on a few days later due to severre inures. Mike was a very experianced track driver and particioated on many events in his M3.

He just had bad luck, who knows what caused him to loose control. It happened in the fall of 2010 he should have had his snow tires mounted.

Anyway, we all need to be very careful out there our cars are indeed very [powerful.

Hope the occupants of the M5 in the original post get well soon. I know having lived in Germany up to age 19 and visiting often, accidents on the Autobahn often end in tragedy so one needs to be very alert all the time.

Be safe everyone.

If it's who I think it is, there was a post on maxbimmer recently commemorating the anniversary of his death. It was stated that the suspected reason for him losing control was bald tires after a track day.

I don't top out my car (or drive as fast or aggressively as I could) when I have passengers including my pup. I could never forgive myself if I were in an accident, survived, and someone (even including my dog) didn't...

That said, wow, I sure hope they all make full recoveries...

Great point about what a testament this is to BMW safety tech, Jason.

Also, I wish my dog and I could afford an F10 M5. Just saying.

He was taken by surprise and just turned left, hit the barrier, swerved to the right and flipped in the grass about 100 meters. One of the sons had a little fire extinguisher which he used while the other pulled his dad out of the wreck.
Oh wow, thanks for clarifying!

Makes me think I should go purchase a fire extinguisher for my car for a just-in-case scenario.

Ouch
The entire left rear wheel, including the suspension, was ripped off

Why did Jason title the article RIP M5?
is he implying that this is not fixable?
