True, it cannot be controlled explicitly by tech, but considering that oil is in the IC, the main way it can get there is either through the compressor side of the turbo or crankcase ventilation, which can be 'engineered' deliberately. The loophole will either be exploited by others or stopped, which is less of an engineering win for Ferrari.

I agree with you but I do think it's tone deaf to call Ferrari a no-funny-business, nose to the grindstone company. They remove you from preferred customer lists if you publish dyno results and journalists have been saying for a while now that Ferrari press cars feel better than the production vehicles (road cars, I know). The company ethos seems similar across divisions. I think they get a lot of goodwill from the FIA because they are such a legendary heritage company, and draw so many to the sport. But they are the tattletale team.

I agree

I'm gonna be really upset if 3rd place gets taken from Verstappen, the growth he's displayed as a driver is seriously impressive. Went from "Crashstappen" to being more consistent than Vettel.

But there's much more wrong with Ferrari than engineering, they would be competitive with adequate pit and driver strategy.

This is a good explanation with some good speculation in the comments.

Since maybe 5 races ago, Ferrari has some newfound power, seemingly good for the claimed 60-90hp that burning oil gives.

Ferrari has had to play catch up to Mercedes with their split turbo design (turbine on one half of the engine and compressor on the other side with a very long spindle). Merc has been more competitive due to lower charge temps from this design.

Teams have been trying to introduce more oil into the charge for a while and there had been reports throughout the season that Ferrari has had oil burning smoke and smell, and per the comments of the article, they could be playing with spindle designs or oiling of the compressor.

If this is clarified and Merc can take advantage of this, they can stack this on top of their already better charge temps.

It’s really difficult to keep track of all of the FIA rules now. Verstappen is the only thing that keeps this sport interesting.

Merc has no need. Red Bull would benefit most by a formal inquiry.

Merc is sitting pretty with 6 straight titles, while Ferrari picks up some crumbs.

Overall Merc has some catching up to do.
The reds have 16 constructors titles,15 drivers and 238 race victories inc.Baghetti's private entry.
Merc will question for any reason to the authority to try to match that tally.

Well Merc hasn't exactly competed in every F1 season, now have they. They now resides over the most dominate era in F1 history. 6 constructors and 6 drivers championships in a row.

Ferrari getting those 2019 season crumbs. Even when they finally get a speed advantage, they f*cked it up like Japan's front row lock out...hilarious. Ferrari's management has been a laughing stalk last few years.

Been over a decade since Ferrari did anything in modern day F1.

Ferrari have all the time in the world.
They have the car now just need to hone their driver tigerish efforts to play in
tandem with the team...and a slight start line creep is not the end of the world.
Merc have only themselves to blame being a universe behind Ferrari in overall
scores for not competing the full house set of seasons since '50.

I think the automatic brake bias system should be making more noise than the Ferrari speculation given the amount of detail Racing Point was able to provide from some kind of inside source...

While on the topic of F1, let's take a minute to reminisce on what inspired the high revving V8s and V10s, SMG & DCT, shift-light-having era of BMW.

19,000 never sounded so good, boy am I excited for 15,000 in 2021.

This is interesting, how does it work? For reference, all teams have toggles for corner entry, mid corner, and corner exit brake balancing, which is dictated to drivers based on telemetry data.

Merc has won about half of the races in the Turbo-Hybrid era. An era which is going to continue with only aero regulations changing. The Scuderia was right to work on upgrading their PU first and worry about the aero later. This was the Merc formula in 2014.

Think about it for a second. Merc has been back for 10 years and have won 60% of the WDCs and WCCs with no end in sight. As long as HAM is there they have the most relentless and productive driver on the grid. They are a nearly unstoppable juggernaut dominating through 3 Formula changes since 2014 and there is no reason to believe that this won't continue.

That's the technical part. Now let's discuss management and strategic operations. Ferrari is a joke on both accounts. Their Machiavellian ways of managing personnel as well as the leadership team is criminal and creates instability that makes it impossible to foster the best efforts from their team.

Strategy...only one way to describe it. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They have 6 pole positions in the second half of the season and little to show for it. This won't stop until they fully stabilize their management ethos and move from an environment of blame to one of free thought and transparency.

If Merc stays in for another decade, it is highly likely that they will approach the total that Fezza did over 70 years in less than 25.
