Well now that the cars are at the VDC, it's all a matter of agonizing wait. Best thing we can do is to make sure that we are ready when the time does come to pick up the new Beasts. No word yet on when we can expect the cars to clear customs and get the new pumps installed at the VDC and then loaded up on the truck for the short trip to BMW Santa Barbara for those who are picking their up there. I am guesstimating 8 to 9 business days from last Saturday is when we can reasonably expect that our M5's will be at the dealers for us ready to pick up. So that puts it at about November 1st that pick ups may start to be ready. Let's hope that its quicker than that and there are no delays.
Counting the days!

BMWNA just informed me that it was in order of darkest to lightest, so although you will be early in the process, black variants will be processed first (Citrine, Azurite, etc).

Surely you guys can't be serious? LOL! If this is true then it sounds like Sapphire Black Metallic would be first. :P

They will be looking for license plates because those are the ED. Then check if it is on the recall list.
Color not an issue but if you ordered piano trim it will never get delivered from the Vehicle Prep Center. They will just clean and clean and clean and clean and clean and clean.... |

I just checked the WW website, mine has the same statuses. I think that the LINER RELEASE means it has been released to the VDC. By the looks of it, it seems that it is done with Customs already. Now if there was just a way to confirm that the VDC has oil pumps.
Our cars are the first to reach Port Hueneme from ED on Sept 1st. From what my dealer has told me, the ED cars are the highest priority for new oil pumps and will be released from the VDC as fast as possible. He pretty much guaranteed that everybody is doing everything possible to ensure that there are no delays in getting their customers cars delivered back to them. LINER RELEASE PORT HUENEME, CA 24-10-2012 11:43:19 DELIVERED FROM PORT HUENEME, CA 24-10-2012 11:25:00 1 CUSTOMS RELEASE PORT HUENEME, CA 24-10-2012 00:00:00 DISCHARGED PORT HUENEME, CA 21-10-2012 01:00:00 1 LOADED ON VESSEL BREMERHAVEN 26-09-2012 21:10:19 1 RECEIVED AT TERMINAL BREMERHAVEN 26-09-2012 06:28:14 1 BOOKED BREMERHAVEN 11-09-2012 16:50:06 1

Actually I found this online:
From the "Glossary of International Shipping Terms" Line Release System - The Line Release System, a part of Customs' Automated Commercial System, is designed for the release and tracking of shipments through the use of personal computers and bar code technology. To qualify for line release, a commodity must have a history of invoice accuracy, and be selected by local Customs districts on the basis of high volume. To release the merchandise, Customs reads the bar code into a personal computer, verifies that the bar code matches the invoice data, and enters the quantity. The cargo release is transmitted to the Automated Commercial System, which establishes an entry and the requirement for an entry summary, and provides the Automated Broker Interface system participants with release information. Not quite sure what that all means but it may be something that helps the flow of paperwork through Customs. So I think that the cars may still be in Customs, but who knows its been at the port for 4 days already.

I am just wondering if anyone has contact at Oxnard VDC.
My dealer already have my oil pump. But according to the dealer, BMW changed policy. All of the fuel pump must be replaced at VDC. I really don't want the extra delay.

Seriously, in googling around, even barring oil pump, it seems time from "Liner Release" to delivery at dealer varies from 3 days to 10 days. I fear there are many variables outside of our control/knowledge. My dealer just emailed me saying that Fidelio had a BUNCH of ED cars (not just M5s) and suggested that the lag time might been extended. I don't think he really knows anything for sure, but his hunch is that it may be a few more days.... He Said: "September/October is the annual "high season" for European Delivery, and since Port Hueneme is a small port, the capacity (availability of inspectors) is challenged for these two months of the year. Once the vehicle makes it through processing I will be able to estimate (pinpoint ETA). I have many ED customers on the same boat (no pun intended) so I am keeping a close eye on things. I will let you know when I have more to report." |
