My apologies, I read your post as if you had the rattle then found the cause with the placement of your donunt gasket being in the wrong spot.
On that drawing number 7 is the gasket you need to replace and the rattle is caused by number 6 flopping around. Eric |

I don't believe so.
Good news, using a new gasket fixed Hunters noise. Problem solved and all new sales will have this gasket set included in the package. Sorry for the issue but thankfully it was a very simple fix. Eric |

Hey guys, for those running catted downpipes Forum member Noushy and I have a better option for the O2 sensors. The stock ones are to short for the AMS downpipes. They will work but they will not clip in their factory clip locations which are the ideal places to run the wires because it's OE placement. Below I have a pic of 2 options. I went with the one on the left because it has insulation. The lines are long enough(approximately 6inches or so longer than our stock ones) to fit into the stock clipping locations so everything fits perfect. However the connectors aren't the same as the connectors on the sensors that come with our car so all you have to do is get a pin removal tool so you can easily remove and swap the connectors with the stock O2 sensors then just install. The downpipe area gets pretty hot so you want to run the lines in the stock clipping locations just to be safe and have an OE Type Fitment. Here is a pic with 2 options. I chose the one on the left and forum member Noushy is running the one on the right (he had installed his before the discovery of the one I am using) they both work fine and so far we both have no CEL.. so here you go:
Left: Bosch 16795 Right: Bosch 15167

I had mine installed at the dealer so they had the tool there. I'm sure it's a simple tool and easy to find. I'm thinking mechanic shops should have it or something similar to use. Just explain what you need to have done. It's very simple.

No problem, you pick one of them and buy 2 of the same. I was just showing 2 different kinds of sensor options you can pick from. So whichever you choose buy 2 of the same.

AMS Alpha-
The (new) donut gasket gets the chamfered face installed DOWN? so that it engages with machined chamfer on the exhaust? Slight hi-jack...but I have this rattle with the RPI exhaust. What I am seeing is that the donut gasket is slightly extruding as the RPI flange is made up. This extrusion causes a slight gap between the RPI flange and spacer flange (stamped piece). This will then allow the spacer flange to vibrate between the RPI flange on the exhaust and the mounting flange on the engine. The key in all this is getting the exhaust flange to completely mate up the engine bracket and firmly sandwiching the spacer flange. Thanks, Tom |

New gaskets did not solve the issue for me. My driver's side looks to be properly made up, but the passenger side still has a gap. This morning, I replaced the passenger side gasket with a (another) new one, except I ground more of a chamfer/lead-in on the gasket. This did reduce the gap once torqued up, but still had a gap. I did a couple runs this evening...the rattle is better, but still not gone.

I need to make a few more runs, but I think the rattle is nearly all gone. After a few heat cycles, I think the flanges moved closer together on the passenger side. I can also confirm that if you have this problem, re-torquing the bolts after a couple hundred miles does help. I plan on retorquing again and that will hopefully fix it for good.
I suspect that some of these problems on aftermarket exhausts may be due to the gasket pocket machined in the flange not being exactly the same as the factory...the pocket may be a little undersized and the gasket has no where to go. |
