Agreed. People wanna find every possible way for the M5 to win. Its only one comparo, who cares what ONE magazine thinks. From the testimonies we have of the owners on this board, we already know the M5 is a fantastic machine. No need to take jabs at Audi for its interior lol.

i just read this article in print yesterday. I'm sorry (and I could be wrong), but I dont think ppl cross shop the S6 with the E63 or M5. I guess some ppl cross shop the S5 and M3, but it's not an accurate comparo. When you do something like that, then the price difference alone kind of makes the S6 a winner from a numbers point of view.
Having said that, I am damn impressed they pulled 3.7s 0-60 mph time on that car. I love C&D, but they are getting weird with the Audi stuff lately. I think they did a similar thing a few months back when they compared an A7 3.0T to a CLS550, which is also not apples-to-apples. Whaddya know, the A7 won that comparo also.

If you really wanted to track a car, you would want one that is a heck of a lot lighter than any of those 3. One thing that the article did mention (at least that I remember) was how close in comparison the performance was for the S6 to the other two, and considerably lower priced. While I did not appreciate the M5 going last, props to C&D for trying to understand that there still is a performance value per $. The fact that BMW has jacked up prices through the roof in the past 6 years or so is going to hinder BMW more in these comparisons if the trend continues. |

Its a load of horse sht. The F10 M5 is the same price as the previous M5. I am not sure what you are talking about. Are you going back 2 generations of M5's? |

These aren't track cars to begin with. I'm not sure I understand your point.

Decrying C&D's objectivity seems weird, given that they've been accused of being BMW boosters for the past decade, the current gen M3 is still winning comparisons, and they did like the M6 relative to the M5. With the new F30, there are several publications (in Europe, internationally, and in the US) corroborating that these newer BMW's have lost some degree of connection with the road, whether it's feel, feedback, engine noise, steering, and weight. If the DCT had been in the E60 M5, not sure whether the F10 would be viewed as the better driver's car/better performer in comparison.

Car and Driver rates M3 THIRD vs S6 and E63
Full article
http://www.caranddriver.com/comparis...omparison-test Summary sheet http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...-e63-amg-1.pdf Shocked how far behind it was too, take price out and the E63 would have won. E63 had the best performance/feel/handling/transmission and was far and away the most fun to drive according to the summary sheet. If only it wasn't so ugly! Mercedes has to get rid of that damn emblem sticking out of the hood, so 1980s the C Class and CLS look so much nicer with the emblem built into the grill (even though its gigantic). I think the Audi looks nice but a S6 hardly looks any different than the A6. I think I would still go with the M5, especially considering that E63 will cost $6,000+ in maintenance over the first 50,000 miles (mostly because of new brake cost where its covered on the M5 in the US). |

Haven't driven the M5 yet (on order for ED and planning trip to Toronto to drive) but the E63 is a blast. It is far more fun than the 4s Panamera. If the seats were anywhere near as comfortable as the multi contour in the 5 series, I would own one.
