Love the car.
First, sitting in the driver's seat, you immediately recognize the quality of the fit and finish of the car. It truly is a far cry from other BMWs I've owned (including an e60 M5). The interior is a stunning color and is sure to go with nearly all exterior colors. If you have doubts, I would say fear not just as most other members with Sakhir have already stated. The iDrive is really quite snappy. Driving the car has a very refined feeling. Setting the suspension, handling, and throttle to comfort is truly a pleasure for the commutes in heavy Chicago traffic. Changing all settings to sport plus transforms the car into something completely different. Truly a joy to drive when the road in front of you allows it. The seats are also a dream to sit in. Only complaints are the steering wheel paddle shifters and the sound. I think the paddle shifters should be on the steering column and taller. The sound is definitely muted but can sound pretty throaty at times. The power and torque are pretty much what I expected - not overwhelming but not underwhelming in any way. From the pics, you can see how Singapore Grey changes with the light. I took one close up of the trim and leather which I feel are pretty accurate. There is a picture of some lights on the door that are just another touch that make the fit and finish what it is. The last pic captures why I love this car - a four-door beast that can gently accept small children when needed. |

The interior is Full Black leather with dark red sycamore wood trim. I optioned it out with Driver Assistance Package, Executive Package, 20" wheels and B&O Sound. The B&O sound is awesome!!! It's so much better than my upgraded sound that was in my 2011 550i.

My M5 finally arrived and I got to pick it up on Saturday. It has been a few years since I've had a car as a DD, I was worried that I was going to miss the utility and driving position of the X5M that I traded in. After about 100km in the M5 and all I can think is WOW! What a beast! The DCT is amazing, I was on the fence whether to order the DCT or 6MT. Had there been an opportunity to test drive a 6MT I would probably had ordered one, but I am now perfectly happy with the DCT.
From the beginning I was determined to order the Cohiba interior, and I was upset when I learned that the leather coverage with individual interiors was limited compared to the standard color selection. Still does not make any sense. Anyways, I ordered the Cohiba with full leather, and the end result is amazing IMO. At the last minute I also change my mind and canceled the piano trim, I will be looking to do something in carbon fiber soon. Turns out capturing the true color of the Cohiba is pretty hard, I am no photo bug. I think it is pretty close, actual color is maybe a hair darker in person. |

After all the wait from the dreaded oil pump issue, I was finally able to do a little photo shoot of my new ride. I can't wait until break in, but overall the car is a pleasure to drive. Here are some pictures. Enjoy!

I finally got a chance to take a few quality pictures. I figured I’d get them posted before the modding begins. I’ve owned many cars I’ve loved over the years, but I must admit that as a daily driver, this is by far my favorite. I just love this car, and after I get done with it, it should be very special indeed.
Modding so far:
On it's way:

Just a question about the alcantara headliner - is the shelf behind the rear seats covered in alcantara too?

Do the individual leather options come with the extended leather (dash, etc) or does that have to be added too? If so whats the price?

Cost is 1875$ on top of the Individual Leather Option (5000$) . It's an absolute must if you decide to go with an Individual leather option. You can also get color contrast stitching for another ~4000$... Attached is a chart which details coverage for each leather option

With all the leather removed do I get a refund from IND
Happy to spend it on some "metal" instead

I have Full Individual Leather and it is well worth the extra $1875. All the exposed leather look plastic is replaced with leather.

Today, I was fortunate to take delivery of an absolutely stunning 2014 LCI M5. It is a 40th birthday present to myself, albeit a bit early as my birthday is not until next month. Believe it or not, it was about a month and two days since I finalized the order to when the car arrived at my dealer. I had expected a bit longer, but nevertheless, I'm delighted to take delivery early. I'll at least have my 1200 mile break-in done by my birthday so I can really open it up!
A little bit about what I ordered: 2014 M5 LCI Sakhir Orange Metallic Sakhir Orange Full Merino Leather with Anthracite Alcantara Headliner ZCP Competition Package (with 2TX [601M] Wheels) ZDB Driver Assistance Plus ZEC Executive Package ZLP Lighting Package 6F2 Bang & Olufsen Sound System 6UK Night Vision I skipped on the ceramic brakes and rear seat entertainment system. I'm coming from an E60 550i with Sport Package. Needless to say, the two don't compare. I haven't yet had a chance to really stretch its legs... I'll be doing that this weekend. Plus, I've got to figure out the myriad of settings and what I prefer. I did manage to snap a few pictures though. Some folks requested specific pictures, which I'm including below. And yes, there's a shot of the seat buttons! One thing I will mention (as I did in a previous post), the Sakhir Orange is an absolutely stunning color. At the last minute, I changed from Individual Azurite Black and full black interior to SO on full SO. I wanted something bold, and I got it! As so many have said about SO, pictures just can't capture it quite right. I really was concerned it was going to be too loud of a color, not to mention too much SO. It is bold, but in a good way. I would describe it as tasteful and not in your face. It's not everyone's cup of tea, I'm sure, but I love it and that's all that counts! As for what's next, I will be tinting the windows and maybe doing a little shopping at iND (living in the Chicago area has its benefits). Painted side markers are a given, and I'm still torn on some of the other tidbits of chrome... stay or go? Oh, the iDrive touchpad is nice. I noticed it recognizes characters quite well and surprisingly quick. Necessary? Probably not. I can probably spin the wheel just as fast if not faster than writing in a letter. Maybe it will be more useful the more I use it. The responsiveness of the iDrive, the animations, and the functionality is vastly improved over even my E89 Z435is (and worlds apart from the E60). The comp package exhaust is sweet, though I can't compare because it has been so long since I test drove a 2013 M5. Regardless, though, I will post more thoughts once I've had a chance to really test it out... within the confines of a proper break-in of course! I'm also excited to check out the effectiveness of the LED headlights once the sun goes down! (In looking at these pictures, the colors are far too saturated. The conversion from Canon RAW to jpg really punched up the saturation.) |
