It's worth a shot. I have the MPE and I was surprised how much more noise was added in my cabin due to the ASD. After unplugging it, I can hear my MPE much clearer now.

I take that if one does this,...a Code isn't thrown into the instrument display?
Another concern! Has anyone disconnected and reconnected the ASD cable, and did they get any codes?

Disconnecting ASD module
I followed the instructions on disconnecting the ASD module in the trunk and had no errors thrown for over 10k miles. Much nicer in the cabin.
BMW reconnected it on a service visit (no charge) when I asked why some of the interior lighting related to the B&O system wasn't on - the systems are linked. |

Try it and see. Only take you a few minutes to unplug it then go for a ride.

The ASD should be renamed a drone amplifier. It sounds like an inline 4 engine trying to be a v12. I say this because I had an S600 and when I was on it the ASD sounds like it's trying to mimic the sound of that buildup of power.
I found ASD with my Armytrix exhaust/factory CAT's to be almost unbearable. I didn't even want to drive the car. I disabled the ASD and can hear real noise! It may be very muted and muffled due to the BMW V8 and sound deadening in the 5 series platform - but it renewed my love for the car. Whatever sound I heard was real and it sounded exotic. The car finally sounds like its engine configuration without ASD, of course not as antisocial as a full RPI GTM or any AMG V8 Mercedes but much better than with ASD. |

I just did my November 2012 build M5 and the standard Harman Kardon system still works fine. This is in the USA market, I'd assume OZ would be the same.

Just disconnected mine on 2012
Inferior sounds and stereo still work Yet to drive it Ive got catless dps and was fine but since adding supersprint rear race mufflers it drones in 7th gear when cruising particularly if going up small incline Will this help a lot?? |

It is quicker and easier to code asd off then expose the connectors. You can do it in esys or the smartphone apps, and then you can do other useful coding too. I use esys, which is free, just the cost of a cable from China, if you have a car windows laptop. Not as simple as the phone apps, hence why they can charge for the apps.
