Weird how this process seems to be different for each person. I got a call last night from BMWNA. This was my 4th conversation with them about compensation. They continue to offer the 2 day M school or $1500. I asked them about the letter and she said there is no letter and these options were all they would do. She said I needed to decide in the next few days which I wanted.

So I just got off the phone with BMWNA and they told me that they are offering a 1 day M school and that's it. I stated that I am hearing offers of $1500 vice M school and he said that, while he can't comment on specific individual cases, BMW is not offering cash, only the M school.
This is particulary frustrating as 1) there seems to be no uniformity of compensation and 2) I am in the military and there is no way in hell my command will give me time off to attend a driving school. I told the rep that a M school voucher is 100% useless to me and he was nonplussed. I'm going to hold my ground on this but I am curious how many folks are getting cash by employing the same tactic? |

Got call from BMW NA today. I was told they are offering a 1 day M school, and that's it. I told the guy, I have zero interest about M school, and this would be my last BMW I buy/lease if they don't come up something else. he said he is gonna talk to his manager, and get back to me.

I decided to take the $1500. I called BMW back and they said my check would be processed ASAP. Hold tight guys, they will give. It would seem they would have to. I'm happy to supply a photo of the check to anybody who needs it for their negotiation.

From my understanding they are evaluating case by case to extend offers dependent on how affected the owner was by the recall.
To me I have no interest in accepting compensation for something that I have to pay airfare and lodging. I would rather take the cash or maybe a set of winter wheels/tires. |

It would be interesting to see how quickly the west coast cars makes thru the VDC.
The first batch of ED car just got to west coast. If it sits for more than a week. I would ask for compensation since I paid my off in full already. Its already crap that my car has already taken 6 weeks transit from Germany to US. Adding a week at VDC and another week to track the car up north. Its a full two month. I did not sign up to give BMW free money for more than 6 weeks. I kind of wish my car would get released earlier since my pump is already at dealer.

It sounds like you took US Delivery of your vehicle and had the vehicle in your possession when this recall was ordered.
Selfishly speaking, from what I understand, was not impacted significantly since my car was still going through the VPC process from my ED. Thats the message I got from CA and it makes sense based on his timelines. I trust him. I am not looking for compensation but if BMW is offering as a "goodwill gesture" then I would thank them and accept the offer. If its the M School its not worth it for me to pay the airfare and lodging. |

For those of you that have already had the pump replaced, how long is the procedure? My dealer received the new pump on Monday morning, they are going to start work tomorrow and they said that the operation is going to take about 2 days. I thought I read somewhere that this is a pretty basic procedure? I am a bit pissed off now because they have had my car since October 4th. They didn't return my call today and I called back at 5pm and demanded to speak to someone. I never lose my shit over this kind of stuff, but this is beyond acceptable.

I took delivery on 9/19 from US dealer. I was contacted by phone on 9/21 by a BMW NA rep about the recall and asked not to drive the car and told it would be 2 to 3 weeks before replacement parts were available. The replacement oil pump arrived at my repairing dealer Friday (10/19) and was replaced yesterday (10/22) - 5+ weeks after I was notified. The whole situation was disappointing in the way BMW did not communicate nor follow up with me during the wait and was extremely frustrating for me. Having said all that I'm glad my car is fixed and don't expect anything from BMW in the way of compensation. Any "goodwill gesture" would be nice and would likely mitigate some of the disappointment I feel about BMW's lack of customer service during this fiasco - but I don't expect nor will I "demand" anything from them. My 9/1 ED car arrived at the Brunswick port on 10/8, cleared customs on 10/11 and was not released to trucking until 10/20. My continual inquiries thru my dealer only got me a statement on 10/18 that it was held up in customs. It now appears it was held at VPC until they received the oil pump while my dealer had one for my car received 10/5. I was just advised today I should be able to pick it up tomorrow, 10/24. So I lost 9 days of my car due to this recall and BMW miscommunication.
So I will now contact BMWNA which on two other issues have been useless and work on a similar compensation others seemed to be offered. |

Well I hope my dealer got replacement instructions from HQ. And I hope that my SA doesn't know what the hell she is talking about and they don't plan on pulling my motor to replace the oil pump. LOL. I better call back tomorrow...

I live 3 hours from my dealer. They picked mine up by flatbed at 11am on a Tuesday and had it back to me at 3pm the next day. I was pretty impressed. The guy that loaded and unloaded it was a real pro. I only wish they had washed it.

FWIW, BMW offered only a 1 day M school and $1500. My feeling is that such small a token for delivering a product with a serious defect that effects resale (the real objective measure of harm to buyers) and false advertising of adjustable side bolsters on a top performance sports sedan does not do right by their customers. An extended warranty or significantly discounted extended warranty directly helps remedy the resale impact and it's something BMW can do for less than the advertised warranty cost.
As many others also mentioned I can't use an M school. The token they offered makes it worth pursuing legal discovery to find out what BMW knew when. They may have also delivered cars knowing they had a serious defect which would provide some owners the option to demand buyback. Anyone else interested in discussing feel free to PM me. |
