Assuming for a moment there will not be any gas guzzler tax ($3K in the E60 M5), the difference is really $2K between old and new M5, very reasonable IMO. Official MPG should be out soon, but preliminarily it looks like the F10 will sneak under the GGT.

And the 1M had an ED discount, I personally got it, as did many other people. The ones that didn't were dealing either with scummy dealers, or were very late in the game (weren't on the list, or had no deposit, and they still dealt with bad dealers). Bottom line is, BMW offers ED discount. It sadly resides with the dealer whether the dealership 'extends' it. Any dealership with good standing and concerned about their image and prolonged customer loyalty will be doing ED MSRP.

As to the N63/S63 fuel economy, BMW engineers have been quoted as saying the there are some design changes in the M5 engine that will filter down to the 550i and other engines next year which will help with fuel economy. The N/S 63 engines don't hae the technology yet. In any event, I'd pick a stripped (but still very well equipped M5 before I'd get a loaded 550. I'm not really into soft close doors and can live without dash leather on the M5. Last edited by Grover432; 04-08-2012 at 08:52 AM.. |

+1
And there is about 9% ED MSRP to ED Invoice room (for a dealer that is willing to budge that is).

You can get a 535i or entry level X5 for that price here LOL.
Probably couldn't even get a 335i for that price in some countries! |

Sorry, the part I was really wondering about was this: "And there is about 9% ED MSRP to ED Invoice room (for a dealer that is willing to budge that is)."
Is this for real? |

While the discount may be 7%, expect to wait for the privilege (unless you're already on a list).
People have been on lists for years. Don't expect to walk into a dealership 2 weeks before launch, instantly be first on the list, and on top of that get a car for 7% below MSRP. Parker |

1. ED discount (7%) 2. MSRP vs Invoice Margins. (~9% or thereabouts) There are 4 different 'prices', which are made public information, so you will know them all soon. US MSRP (what was released during NYIAS) ED MSRP (TBD but should be around 7% less than US MSRP) US Invoice (about 9% below US MSRP) ED Invoice (about 9% below ED MSRP) So if you are doing ED delivery, dealer 'cost' is technically ED Invoice. So difference b/w US MSRP and ED Invoice is give or take 16% (7+9). THEORETICALLY, that is your 'wiggle' room as a buyer. But don't expect miracles in the first few months of production...

one of the only new cars I can think of (bmw or otherwise) that's actually worth the new price. Can't wait to see/drive one of these.

Has anybody checked if it is really possible to do a true ED for an M5? I have done many EDs but I was told the M5 will initially come from dealer allocation so there is no ED pricing at this point (FYI discounted EDs do not come from dealer allocation). Does anybody else have different real information or is it speculation?
This was the case too in 2008 for an M3. You could still do European delivery but it was coming from dealer allocation - it changed about a year later. |
