We had another insurer for a while - can’t remember name, but they only insured when my wife was wearing the jewelry or it was locked up. I thought that was ridiculous. What if she removed her ring and put it on the counter while cooking or washing her hands and forgot to put it back on? Jewelers Mutual insures it - period. And they are easy to deal with and cost a little less.

Congrats hopefully he says yes!

Purchased princess cut 22 years ago, never had that issue. It wasn’t a large stone but I wasn’t a wealthy man either lol. You should be fine.

Not even remotely lol. I was technically jobless when purchased, just moved back to country and asking for her hand in marriage. I think the set was just sub $5k. In todays terms I may as well get it from a bubble gum machine

LOL. Man we do in fact share some similar history it seems. When I moved back to the country presumably from the same foreign land, I was also jobless but got married around the same time. However, I was stupid and had some money after having lived abroad for a long period of time and bought my e46 M3 in cash without ever having driven one. I think you already know that story.

Exactly, they get mounted at the corners. No concerns on them.

My engagement ring was a princess with two side stones. It was beautiful. The only issue I had was the stone got loose a few times. There were only 4 prongs on the setting which were on the corners of the square. From what I understand, because the prongs are on the corners, it is possible to chip when set. Round or oval stones usually have more prongs on the settings and the shapes don’t have sharp edges. If the stone has good proportions I think it is less likely to get damaged. If you have the good insurance that covers damages to the diamond, no worries.

Yes! Same, past present future. What was unique about the ring I got was the mounts were in the shape of hearts as well. Beautiful ring, just not as large as I'd like as shared above

Yea the chipping at the corners due to the prongs on the setting was the info I kept running into as well. The stone has excellent proportions at least, so I should be as safe as I can be on that front hopefully. If not, I'm for sure getting insured based on the earlier responses. Coincidentally, I'm also going with a tri-stone setting (pear setting stones), currently in design phase

This is great and reassuring to hear! I definitely hope it holds up to the test of time (PS: it's probably not as big as it seems it's just a close up from one of the initial presentation videos, but the only detailed image I had on hand)

The size of the diamond doesn’t matter, only the size of the heart that gives it.

I don’t think I’m allowed to post the thing I bought so I’ll post the accessory I bought for the thing that I bought that I cannot speak of.

I don’t understand the logic behind that. We have a firearms thread, yet we can’t post weapons here
