I picked up my M5 yesterday and will give some of my initial thoughts. I picked up the car from Park Lane at 11am, which was very smooth, quick and a perfect start to the day. When i was left with the car after the initial walk through, i was utterly thrilled and shaking with excitement

After spending most of yesterday driving, reading anything negative about active sound or turbo lag is just meaningless now!! This thing is a BEAST!!!! Additionally, reading anyone comparing the f10 to the e60 seems like a joke now; it is a completely different class in every area.

I have barely taken it over 4k revs, as that's the recommended limitation for the first 600 miles (which I intend to smash through as quickly as possible).

The access to power makes me physically sick, it is so good. The car gets a lot of attention. The two massive areas where it just flattens the e60 are as follows:

1. Torque band: You can floor it seemingly from any speed in any gear and you will experience a surge of violent acceleration (with a dirty great v8 rumble that I love). This is so exciting to explore and the M engineers have pulled off a miracle. In my e60, I always had to rev high and just got used to it thinking it was normal - the f10 turbo/torque monster of an engine is how performance cars should be.

2. The DCT is absurd. You feel nothing but a relentless shove through all gears. There is no lurch like with the e60 SMG. Sometimes there is a crack as it changes up, which is beautiful. The paddles are very attached to the 'box and there is no lag between hand flick and actual gear change. The overriding feeling is a pure confidence that this car will take on almost anything and win. It's so easy to drive fast and that's what I have been after.

The sound is lovely. I prefer it to the e60. At low speeds it's quiet but with rapid acceleration it bursts into life and emits a beautifully loud v8 roar banging and popping when you lift off the loud pedal.

The car is big, but feels nimble. It's a weird sensation, because it is very comfortable and luxurious with umpteen toys and is the best cockpit I have been in and yet the width of the car never feels too big; it manoeuvres so well.

All my driving has been in comfort so far and these are my experiences. I think until I have done 600 miles, I won't bother trying any setting in sport or sport plus. I did try sport across the board for a few minutes and it felt even more brutal and alive.

This is not a very well thought out review - more of a brain dump but hope it helps some of you understand the broad range of superbness that this car provides. I also feel slightly silly, as I have not even driven it hard yet, but even what I have done has already been incredible! I will certainly write a lot more when I have drive it more...

Right, where are those keys :-)

The azurite looks great!

No it is normal shiny paint. It looks very inky and mean then in the sun it glitters blue in places. Very nice. Similar but better than my old carbon black.

How do you think CB and AB compare? Is it just me, or the AB looks a bit more purple.

Absolutely stunning M5 btw!

I would describe AB as inky. It's very dark In anything but bright sunlight. In the bright sun, you get small hues of metallic blue, but it's subtle.

Hi Phish, apologies to be off topic. I have been following your tribulations on the other forum - glad to see a bit of pressure with Bmw got your beast back.

Could you share the name and email of Park Lane's MD?

Much appreciated.

Smile More Photos in the Sun!

I took a few more photos in the sun! I hope the colour is clearer, but it's still only with my iPhone - I don't own a decent camera! Loving the car more every day!!

Definitely. That's the only one that you can see the blue hue in. That's what it looks like in the sunlight - utterly beautiful. Not regretting the colour choice :-)

Garage List
Thanks for the additional photos in the sun!

As this color is rare (and difficult to photograph accurately), I've sometimes wondered whether I should keep my (M3) order as Azurite. But it's definitely a beautiful metallic color I'm sure I won't regret.

Love this color! Especially the effect between dark and sunny wetter!!

Phish I was reading your topic, perhaps I misunderstood but did you experience some troubles with the M5?

Our how many miles do you now have; And what's your thoughts after x miles?

yeh the colour is outstanding. I still think its the best M5 colour. The depth is amazing. It looks like a huge globule of dark ink when its cloudy and then sparkles blue in the sun! it looks mean at night! so yes after a few hundred miles and 10 days, the fuel pressure sensor failed putting the car into limp mode immediately, so had to send it back for a few days for servicing. Was very disappointing, but its all fine now and havent had any issues since then. I have done about 1600 miles now so past run in. The car is beautiful. I love getting in, preferably on my own and without my family so I can drive properly! The M buttons do what they are meant to do and the car pulls seemingly from anywhere in the range. The most outstanding differences between E60 and F10 is the very smooth, quick DCT and the responsiveness from 1500 rpm. You dont have to rev it ridiculously and look/sound like an idiot to go like a rocket. The sound is amazing - active sound not an issue. The exhaust sounds amazing, popping and cracking its way through the gears. When you lift off you get a lovely bassy wallop from the exhaust. NO turbo lag as such, but there are times when you will notice. Its difficult to tell if the power is just not being put down or if its lag though. There is one slight issue about putting the power down. I would say about 40% of the time, the power doesnt transmit to the road perfectly and the traction control will light up indicating the wheels are struggling even with the massive tyres. The power is possibly too much I think. I dont understand the reason for people wanting to tune this car for more power/tq - makes no sense to me! It will not be faster - it will be worse. all in all, I love it - couldnt really love it more. Its 100 times better than the E60 M5 I had, which I also loved. COngrats on yours and hope you enjoy. If you are passing by North london, let me know and we can go out 2 M5s in convoy! dont know anyone else who has bought one!

I have an Azurite Black on order just like yours. What interior trim did you get? I can't tell if it's Red Sycamore?

Thanks

Hi
Im also suprised over the lack of grip!! With DSC on the electronic strangles the power totally.. and in the MDM mode the tire lose there grip when going on full throttle at lower speeds
On this aspect the M5 dont live up to my expectations
Sometimes the car feels like a American muscle car with a huge motor and no grip

Depends if you want stealth or not I think. Azurite is lovely/stealth. AW is also lovely but more 'look at me' :-)
