Carbon fiber intake is a beauty! Can't wait to see the numbers!!
For Akra exhaust money ($8,400 MSRP), we can now get Dinan exhaust, intake and the tuner combo upgrade ($8,772 MSRP). That's pretty good alternative option....

Based on trap speed of 123.86 my estimated horsepower is anywhere from 638 to 688 depending on the method used. The gain is 60 hp or about what was advertised by Dinan. This trap speed was obtained after only about 100 miles of adaptation on the Dtronics. It should get better with more miles but yesterday and today it has been wet here. We need the rain so I have no complaints.

Ok, but updated comments on the seat of the pants feel in the different modes? Do you feel Dinan smoothed out the torque curve some or applied constant boost across the entire range? For instance, my previous car (2011 F10 550i) was Dinan Stage 4 reflashed and it totally smoothed out the torque curve so that car had a much smoother application of power.
I would think the only way Dinan could do that with Dtronics would be to apply different boost at different RPM ranges. Also, I am not sure why BMW didn't go with a mechanical LSD for the M5. I had that on my 550i (Dinan), and it made a huge difference in getting the power to the ground. |

I want to try some more quarters and 0-100s and 0-60s but that will have to wait for better weather. |

Thanks for the Dinan update - I agree the quarter mile or say a run from 0-100/60-130 will give a better picture of the performance gains. Of course, a dyno would be nice as well, especially if you can get a stock M5 for comparison. Its not quite as good as a before and after on the same car though.
With the additional practice, your 0-60 times may be better due in part that you are getting more adept at launching the car. I will never forget the difference I felt when I test drove my 2007 335i after installing a piggyback tuner. After a few pulls to allow for adaption, it felt like a different car. I suspect the ECU's in the M5 are more complicated and take longer to fully adapt. Thanks again for being a pioneer for the Dinan stage 2 package. Dave |

Personally I think the ECUs are better at adapting quickly to inefficiencies when running lean, etc. based on just how good the technologies are... Probably why Terry isn't seeing Knock etc. on the m4 making 500+whp/580wtrq. |

From all that I have read, It seems the Dinan Stage 2 is about on even par with the BMS piggyback. I have had Dinan products on my 2011 550i and loved them. But, for almost $3k more for the same HP gains, I may have to go BMS this time.
wrsbmw, thank you so much for your insight into the Dinan product for the F10 M5. Thanks BB |

To be fair to Dinan, this thing wasn't installed properly. The CEL was due to turbulence and that was because they took out the snorkels which left large holes in the bottom of the air box. It turns out that the Dinan solution requires a closed airbox, the extra air comes from the new scoops in the cold air intake. My car is being fixed with a new bottom on each air box that is solid. Now the DTronics should perform optimally. I am fairly certain it wasn't working as well as it should because the airflow data was bad.
P.S. I am not having to pay for the different plates on the bottom or the labor, Dinan is covering that. Last edited by wrsbmw; 07-23-2014 at 06:06 PM.. |

Great news . I know I had the snorkel so I am happy I sent it to them. I am sure it will get covered.

Yeah, please let us know what happens. I know I would pay more than BMS, but it's worth it for no warranty hassles. I had Dinan Engine and Tranny upgrades on my e39 540 and loved them every day for 7 years.

Just picked the car up and it's running great. It's way fast compared to the 328i GT I was using for the loaner. I am going out to west texas on Sunday but not in my car, in the X5 because I have to get out in the rougher roads that my car just did not like and the X5 can handle a little better. So I don't know when I will make a 1/4 test but will report when I do.

I've did my first D-tronics Stage 2 installation yesterday on a F10 M5 at work. I couldn't keep the car long enough to see how well it performs after it fully adapts but certainly a noticeable difference on the 0-60. And it was rush hour here in nyc so couldn't really push it.

Might be on par with the stock boost settings of 2.2lbs, but BMS can SAFELY be increased to 4lbs easy. |
