With AWD and torque vectoring, the M5 will be competitive against the Panamera Turbo. Without AWD, it wont. 550+ hp is just too much for RWD.
It will be fun to see all those dissing the AWD M5 switch sides when the AWD version posts better numbers, 0-60, quarter mile, ring times etc than the RWD!!!

I thought I recall something about the current iteration of the x-drive system "disengaging" above ~70mph or something.

Perhaps most of the "brainwashing" is that die-hards that believe RWD cars are the only form of sports car...?

Exactly...if it was RWD. But add in AWD to the equation and why not? I see 911T in the winter as well as GT-R's. So having AWD as an option is actually a great idea. More choices for us. I definately welcome it. Imagine a M3 with AWD. The current M3 is already quite a good car for dd. So imagine the new one with AWD option. That'll be the ultimate dd. And for those purists that live in warm weather all year round, there's still a RWD version. So everybody should be happy.

And another thing, it was said that the ever increasing sloth-ness of the current 5 series can be blamed on what Chinese customers want---keep that in mind... |

I can't tell you how many people looked at me like I would get stuck over here when it snowed 27 inches. Granted, getting stuck is easier, but thats something DRIVER SKILL should handle. I didn't get stuck ONCE in my E90. All I have is All-Seasons.
edit: wtf, they say its going to be 4-wheel-drive, and then later say AWD. (yes there is a difference). I'm no longer considering AutoCar fully credible. Its a misguided rookie mistake to call them the same. |

I HATE when people tell other people what they should do with their own money, who are you to tell someone NOT to get an M car? Either way...who cares? THERE WILL BE BOTH PEOPLE....If you live in Cali and want your RWD M5, you will have it. AND if you live in Chicago, and want your AWD M5, then you too will have it your way. Everyone wins....why are people getting pissed? As long as it is an option and not standard AWD....let it be! Geez

Agreed.. people just love to complain about change, as if a manufacturer should maintain the same principles for 100 years and then become extinct in doing so because they haven't changed to match what the consumer wants. |

But I have to agree. If you don't like what BMW is doing, move on. Vote with your dollar. I'm sure moves like this by BMW will just make Porsche richer (well, those of us who are affluent enough to afford Porsches). |

If Chinese customers want a "increasingly sloth-ness" 5 series then it is them that vote with their wallet. They are the ones putting money in BMW's purse so why not. Why don't YOU buy a "faster-ness" GS350 instead, Lexusboy. Last edited by WRXXX; 05-03-2011 at 11:52 AM.. |

its funny though because people who say the M brand is ruined will still buy M cars anyway, so is it really ruined? |
