We solve that issue by not having sidewalks.

What's a vagrant? My neighbor to one side is 400+ acres of wooded county parkland, and my other neighbor is 2,000+ acres of state forest. The only vagrants going through our garbage cans are named Yogi and BooBoo, and you should see them city folks run when they suddenly find themselves on the wrong side of the food chain!!!!!

Most folks just leave their quads down at the bottom of the road in the winter and use those to get up to their homes if it gets bad. That's my plan. The road (which is basically my driveway) is about 1.5 miles and has about 1,100 ft of elevation climb. House sits at roughly 5,500 ft +/- 500 depending on where you are on the property.
I almost got some of these, and I don't even have anything super steep on my commute! These would be 100% on my truck if I was you.

LOL!

Well....

1) I don't own a truck. I don't even own an AWD. 1 FWD and 2 RWD.
2) I live in a state park, so the roads are very well maintained up to my 'driveway'.
3) I would think that my quad bike will suffice for the few days a year I would have any issue, and it probably costs less than just the install labor on those thing.

Pretty badass, though.

You're not trying hard enough. I live in Seattle were it snows once every 10 years and it melts the next day, yet I'm 100% certain I NEED one of these setups for the Delica. "Need", "Want", bah, really just the same thing right?

From what I remember when I was researching, they are good on pavement as long as it is below freezing, and they are just bolt on (hence the large circle up top) so the installation would be nil and could just be left on all winter.

Also - not just for trucks!

I see you are from Canada. This is because Canada charges a premium to live in a country where it gets so cold for a few months that it actually hurts to breathe outside.

Construction costs and land in some parts of the States is very economical. Watch some of the flip shows even - you'd be surprised.

LOL. Mine was substantially less than that, was 3,750sf (348 sq. meters), on 7 acres (2.8 hectares).

For additional clarity. Here is my view from the front porch:

Brother in law just built a house, 3200 square feet, finished based, I would say high end finishes, not insane but still, very high. Topped out at over $1M.

We are just doing a kitchen and a few other things and it's 100K.

Yes, but that's $100K Canadian, which is something like $1.68 US (we still have pennies on this side of the border) if my conversion math is correct.....

Mostly black bears, although they should also be called brown bears because of the color that tourist's underwear turns when they see one staring them down.

My DW used to work outdoors with a bunch of city folks. If one of them saw a chipmunk rustling leaves, they would yell "snake!" and the whole lot of them could break Usain Bolt's 400 meter record scurrying to run away.....

Expensive to be sure, but not the 2.4mil prices you were posting.

It's amazing the lengths people will go to to live in SoCal. LA and Inland are mostly junk, depressing, and far from "real" California yet people will pay ridiculous prices to live there.
