I had a ticket. A buddy saw the concert advertised (I think) in Rolling Stone. We sent a money order for four of us. That Thursday, I bailed at the eleventh hour. The three set of in a 1960 ex-Bell Telephone Studebaker Lark...leaving me watching them drive off. The Lark overheated in the traffic, they pulled off and left it to walk. According to them there weren't any gates or ticket collections...and that left no chance to sell my ticket. The experience wasn't all that great for them, with more stories about discomfort than about fun.

Except for CSN&Y.

Woodstock was conceived as a profit-making venture. It became a "free concert" when circumstances prevented the organizers from installing fences and ticket booths before opening day. Tickets for the three-day event cost US$18 in advance and $24 at the gate (equivalent to about $150 and $210 today. Ticket sales were limited to record stores in the greater New York City area, or by mail via a post office box at the Radio City Station Post Office located in Midtown Manhattan. Around 186,000 advance tickets were sold. The organizers had anticipated that approximately 50,000 festival-goers would turn up.

I am playing catch up on all the rock shows I missed. I grew up in a music desert, only had top 40 on the radio, and it was repeated.
Did not see a rock concert until College, REO Speedwagon, $20 tickets, 4 row center.
In the past 15 years or so, Bruce Springsteen, the two remaining Who members, Paul McCartney, Genesis, Chicago, Brian Wilson, Cheap Trick,
Rod Stewart, Elton John, Peter Frampton (A very good Blues Concert), Robert Plant (closest I would get to a Led Zeppelin concert), Bob Dylan, Rick Wakeman.
Queue up are Little Feat, Tedeschi Trucks, Blue Oyster Cult

Also been attending some of the tribute bands, Aussie Floyd (who are very good), Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin

You grew up in a music desert. By contrast, I was was lucky enough to grow up in a music oasis. My teenage years and college years were in Southern California, which meant live music somewhere almost every weekend; The Sunset Strip, Greek Theater, Hollywood Bowl, Sports Arena, and a bunch of smaller clubs. I wish I'd kept all the ticket stubs, but at least I've got the memories.

I saw Neil Young the first time when he was with Buffalo Springfield at a little dance club in Redondo Beach called The Revelaire Club. Reb Foster, a local DJ, owned the club and bands would perform there to get heard and also (I'm guessing) in exchange for getting their songs played on Reb Foster's radio show. During that time (1966?) Buffalo Springfield would play high schools too. They just wanted to get out there and get heard. The were amazing. I saw Buffalo Springfield a couple of times again in the '60s and then again when they reformed a few years ago and played at the Paramount Theater in Oakland, 50 years after I first saw Neil Young perform. In beteween, I saw CSN&Y a few times and also Neil Young perform with his band. It's been a joy watching this very talented and very unique guy perform over all of those years.

You know you're old when you remember when the Raiders were the winningest team in the NFL.

I didn't know this one. Thanks Esteban for providing the answer. I can say the image, while not remotely the same, reminded me of this great group of folks from a '60s movie. Anybody remember them and or the movie?

Weena. I will never forget her. I was 11 when this movie came out. She is forever etched in my adolescent brain, along with many others, but I'll save that list for another time. A great new thread idea!

When you do squats are your knees supposed to sound like a goat chewing on an aluminum can stuffed with celery?
