He gave me that as a possible (& untested) solution too but my preference is NOT to use spacer. I don't want another possible issue if the spacer may create vibration as well.
Anyway, the shop owner really went beyond and did me a huge favor by solving the problem with out charging me a cent. [QUOTE=stealth.pilot;12940502] |

Christ trying to find 19" wheels that actually fit the F10 M5 has become such an issue that I am left believing that the best option by far is to just get a set of the OEM 19" wheels. Now I just have to find the best price.

Not sure about grinding calipers. Sounds risky. And the rear will sti look funny.

Tell me about it. If you have read thru my past posts on 19", this is the absolute nightmare finding what will fit.
Anyway, like my earlier post said. If you go stock, say 345M, the rear must be 19 * 10. I went with 19 * 9, thinking if the front clears the front massive caliper, then there should be no issue whatsoever for the rear (as it's a few mm smaller than the front). The real culprit of the rear is the caliper housing which has a protuding odd shape (rather than totally square) and it is that odd shape that ends up grinding my 19 * 9 wheel. It is not a deep line but I say is a 1 to 1.5mm scoring line on the wheel when the shop rotates it which was enough to take off the whee's clear coat. Lastly, aside from the stock 19", PYSpeed (online vendor) confirmed the Arkym J12 19" wheel cleared the front & rear. Be preapred to dig into your piggybank, they are over $5000 for a set. The other one that IND has on the M5 show car also has BBS FI 19" and it cleared the front & rear as well. Aside from these two, no other wheel makers have step up to the plate to confirm whether their 19" will clear or not. Last edited by bobblehead; 11-04-2012 at 08:08 PM.. |

I am talking about the blue painted caliper metal housing. The shop owner grinds off enough for the wheel to clear and then he painted the affected area with blue paint (close enough color to match). In all, the brake was not touched.

That rear offset doesn't sound right. Suppose a spacer will be needed.

Ok guys here is my dilemma:
1) Buy the 20s Dunlops Winter (love them) for the stock rims. - out of pocket is $1800 (delivered) 2) Buy the BMW 345M 19s for my existing Dunlops Winter Set - out of pocket is $3500 (delivered) I drive about 12,000kms a year and most of my driving is in the city - downtown etc. Thoughts? I am leaning towards the 20s just for the look rather then anything... I am pretty careful with my rims but I know the proper thing to do is get another "set" for the winter. I used the same rims for my Targa for 2 winters and not once scratch or ding on them.

Your front is not the correct sizing at all. Your speedo is way off 7% and the overall diameter is off by 6.7%,
The front: 265/40/19 is the correct size. Alternative is 255/40/19 Your rear is not the correct sizing either. Your speedo is off 3.8% and the overall diameter is off by 3.7%. The rear: 265/40/19 is the correct size. Alternative is 255/40/19 for staggered: 295/35/19 is the correct size - which the 19 * 10 will fit for sure Looks like you will need a complete set of new tires. FYI: I am running square. 265/40/19 - Michelin PA4 - $1750 Cdn (all in) @ Simply Tires (North York). Steve |

^ Just doing my part in helping others. Making sure they know what possible fitment issues are out there before making the buy.
Like I said earlier, nobody wants to get stuck with a $4-5000 'coffee table', i.e. 4 wheels that don't fit. |

Will see how it turns out and see the options for spacers at time of install. Just under 3 weeks to take delivery. !!

Since you are going to Simply Tire, if you speak to Allen (owner), he can definitely give you the humor side of my whole tire/wheel saga (which started around the summer when I was looking for winter setup).

Michelin 20 inch winter option
For those of us who would like to run a winter tire on the stock 20's. I found these Pilot Alpins. Seems like they would fit perfectly. Anyone have any thoughts? Michelin Pilot Alpin
Comes in a 295/30/20 for the rear and a 245/35/20 for the front.

I decided to order the BMW winter wheel and tire package for the M5 from my local dealer today. Rims are 19x9 (408s) and closely resemble the 20" factory wheels. Tires are Dunlap Winter Sports size 255 40s. The Package Cost me $3,650.72 including tax. I also confirmed that because these are factory supplied wheels and tires that the wheel/tire warranty I purchased for my original wheels/tires also covers the winter setup. Your thoughts on the setup and price?

Alufelgen cannot get their 19's to fit the rear. They had only tested the fronts originally.
