Lost use of gears 2,4,6

HI All

I was taking a drive in my M5 today (F10), and all of a sudden I had an alert saying something like "Drive train issue - maximum performance not available, ok to continue with journey, please consult your service partner"....

It would not shift, then would only go from 3rd to 5th, then eventually to 7th, and reluctantly downshifts to 5th then 3rd. Then I went in to 1st and it would not shift up, on paddles or auto. So crawling along in 1st!

Would not use 2,4, or 6 gear at all.

Then when I parked up, turned engine off, then on again and all is fine, and did a further 60 miles with no issue...

Wonder what's the issue?

I had the exact same issue... Limp mode. Turned it off and no issues in 1-2 years. Weird
