Possible used M35i purchase

2020, one owner, 42K miles.

Anything specific to check or look out for? Seems reliability on this powertrain is pretty solid, based on the forum posts.

I work from home, so I don't drive a ton - 6-7K miles/yr.

I have a 2019 it has been pretty flawless except for the sos battery needed replacing under warranty. I only have 24,000 on it between covid, went remote for a year and now retirement (highly recommend ) I only drive mostly around town. I enjoy the car but I still have the occasional heavy left foot which this car makes me smile.

If not my favorite car I have owned its top 2 I have had 335, couple Saabs, Volvo, 3 Acuras etc. Mostly go fast versions even a firebird in the day. Great car, fun drive
Enjoy, stay safe

I agree with rounderman. The silence of this X2 forum speaks volumes about the reliability of the M35. [touch wood]

My '19 is at 58k miles. I bought the car used in 2021 at 3800 miles. SOS battery replaced under warranty. Regular oil changes every 9k miles. This car has been drama free. I might keep this one past 80k. I usually start shopping for a car once I hit 75k.

This issues to look for are:
1) motor mounts.

That seems to be the only issue that I have read about as being a "common" problem.

How did you know the mounts needed replacement?

When the motor mounts go bad, there will be a knocking noise as a result of acceleration and other torque inducing movements.

The X2 motor mounts are fine, IMO. If you use launch mode daily, well, check 'em.

You can tell a bad motor mount easily with the hood open. The engine will rock and roll at idle. Or, put it in gear and rev the engine while holding the brake and watch for it to rotate. If the mount is completely failed, you'll definitely hear the engine resting on the frame.
