New Escort Passport Max radar detector

Can the pros and radar enthusiasts please comment on this radar? Is this the new top of the line for windshield mounted radars?

Awaiting stealth's review. I know he is a Bell guy.

Too early to cast an opinion on this. Based on what I have read, I believe this will address two key weaknesses of the 9500ix:
- First the way the 9500ix filters falses often results in poor ramp-up on K band (i.e. you hear nothing and then all of a sudden you get a signal for a cop within sight at full signal). This doesn't affect the Bel STIR+ but is a common issue on the 9500ci.
- Second the way the 9500ix, ci and STIR+ auto lock out false alerts blocks out a fixed segment of spectrum in the area of the false. The new detector blocks out the digital signature of the false which means it is more likely to catch a cop in the area with the same frequency where a false is locked out. This will occasionally be useful.

In principal DSP should enable much smarter filtering and result in earlier more linear ramp-up combined with effective false filtering.

One thing that I found very disappointing about the Passport Max specs is that it doesn't have arrows like the V1. Valentines patent on arrows has expired so I don't understand why Escort didn't include this feature. I hope they do on the next 9500ci or STIR+.

I will update you once I have heard some user feedback. I may buy one to test as my travel detector for use in rental cars.

I knew Stealth wouldn't disappoint.

I need a radar. The internal speaker on my 9500i quit working. No more audible alerts. Just visual.

That speaker is replaceable. You can add the "external" speaker.

I have one on order. I have been a V1 junkie for many years and do rely on the arrows, but I wanted something different. Tried the Redline, but returned it within a 30day window when the Max was announced.

Here is a review from one of the better known members on the Escort Radar Forum...

Here's a good review on the Max. Looks good to me. I'm going to buy one for use as my rental car detector (I travel a lot).

My sense is that this is a solid step up from the 9500ix and much better than the V1. I do think they could have made it better with a rear antenna and arrows. Note that a rear antenna isn't needed for rear detection - the twin 360 degree antennas will provide solid rear detection. But it's needed for arrows and this was a clear miss. I hope they don't miss the arrows on the next STIR+. However I'm still lobbying Stinger to enter the US market and give Escort some real competition.

Was supposed to begin shipping Friday but it didn't. I think they must have a supply chain problem.

If you get it, today is the last day for the June offer. The June offer is a not bad deal with the lifetime updates and other extra stuff. However otherwise, you're better off waiting till it reaches the dealer channel (i.e. Amazon) to save tax and get a discount.

Lots. But on M5 topics, I know nothing about spacers, lowering springs, brakes, ecu tuning, or tape-on bodyparts like lips and spoilers. I'm all about optimizing a car within the paradigm of perfect beauty that BMW created while keeping warranty and ultimate service plan intact.

The radar/laser detector is one thing. I did order the Passport Max. The question is, whether or not the Escort Live (App and all) worth it with the annual subscription?

I've been using Escort Live religiously for the past three months. It's amazing and it works at least for me on the roads I usually drive in the northeast, especially on NH interstates that seem to have a patrolman every 10 miles.

What kind of a phone do you use?

My hesitation has been that I don't know if the iPhone can support two simultaneous bluetooth connections.

I use the escort system without a paid subscription. I use it like trapster. As a matter of fact I use both and I keep trapster operating in the background.

The app is free.
