BMW cuts No Cost Scheduled Maintenance to 3 years, 36k miles and no brakes

I think this hits ///M Car owners the hardest as our brakes are the most expensive. I guess they might be trying to get more people to lease their cars in the future. Not to mention that in the future BMW will continue to increase the prices of their vehicles as technology gets better and to keep up with inflation. Essentially we will be paying more for less. What do you all think?

BMW has just informed dealers that starting in Model Year (MY) 2017 the included No Cost Schedule Maintenance program will be reduced to a 3 year, 36,000 mile program. Currently BMW is offering a 4 year, 50,000 mile program with new car. Furthermore the new program staring for all 2017 vehicles no longer includes brake pads, brake rotors, wiper blades, engine belts or manual transmission clutches. As is currently the new program will also be non-transferable.

In March of 2016, right when the first round of MY 2017 vehicles go on sale, BMW will being offering new maintenance program upgrades (MPU). These MPUs will be sold by the dealership and will further enhance and extended maintenance coverage.

This is a significant reduction in ownership value, especially in the 4th year when brake replacement is likely needed. Some Model Year (MY) 2017 production starts as soon as March (BMW production chart) so if you were on the fence about buying now or waiting to get a 2017 model this is something you should consider.

The table below outlines the covered content in both the current 4 year, 50,000 mile program and the new 3 year, 36,000 mile No Cost Schedule Maintenance program. The new program applies to new car sales with a model year 2017 or great.

CPO doesn't cover maintenance, CPO is just an extension of the factory warranty. So even with a CPO vehicle, maintenance wouldn't be covered unless they are throwing in a maintenance agreement with it.

Warranty should still be 4yr/50k, just the maintenance items reduced to 3yr/36k.

I have bought my car at certified pre owned with 1700 miles on her an i actually have full 100k cpo,warranty,maintenance on mine bumper to bumper, i think that was an actual extra 4k on top of price.

Youre right maybe its worth to throw maintenance on them

Just be careful because the CPO warranty does not = the new car warranty. I found this out the hard way a few months back. The CPO warranty has many exclusions when compared to the new car warranty.

To certain extent. Actually mine is "new car warranty" since it was only 1700 miles on her when i purchase her. Lucky me i guess so basically i have new car warranty till 100k bumper to bumper on everything.

I was in the same situation as you, but my car had a bit more than 1700 miles when I bought it (24k). My car is a 2011 and I bought it in 2013. The new car warranty is 4 years or 50K miles from the date the car was originally put in service. Once the 4 years expires, your CPO warranty kicks in extending your coverage another 2 years (to 6) or 100k miles. What I am trying to say is in those last 2 years (or from 50k - 100k miles) the warranty coverage you have is not the same as the new car warranty coverage. There are more exclusions in the CPO warranty and you might be surprised at some of the things that are no longer covered. I was quite disappointed.

i bought mine 2015 of March the car is 2013 but it was made late of 2013 so yeah the year of the car definitely play a big part also.

but what I'm trying to to say also is after that 50k Yes my car is still covered as New Car warranty due to I purchase the extended warranty to cover all any repairs to the car, it was a request to my financial salesperson before i signed the documents and I made sure that it was everything covered from a tiny wire to an engine till 2018. since this is a car I will be keeping.

Anyways, yes this is true, but to their credit.... NO manufacturer offers coverage on wear and tear items. I mean thats crazy.

So that fact that they are taking it away is unfortunate because they were basically exclusive with this.

Yeah I have good friend who is a technician at a BMW dealership and when I asked him about this move by BMW he actually agreed with it. He stated though, it has mostly to do with regular BMW owners and not M car owners. He alluded to the problem of people who own 328i's getting their brakes changed when it isn't necessary, it adds up to a lot of dough for BMW.

For people like me, who like to own their M cars and drive the heck out of them, this is bad news. In under 50,000 miles I changed all of my brakes, replaced my windshield wipers, had 4 oil changes, spark plugs changed, and other service in under 3 years of ownership. With BMW not even covering brake changes for M car owners, this may push me to lease instead of buy in the future. As somebody else once said, replacing the brakes on an M5 is like buying a used Honda civic. It's always nice to be able to save money anywhere you can.

Do you have that in writing? They probably rolled a ESC (like a CPO but customer purchasable) into the purchase price which still does have exclusionary items.

Very disappointing. I have a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E 550 which now has 18,000 miles on it and is on it's third – that's right – set of rotors. They consider warped rotors normal wear and tear. Whereas I believe they are incentivized to put on inferior part because they know the customers will have to pay for them. It seems almost insidious.

No, it is not. They made that very clear to me last month when I signed a new lease. It's inly for the original owner.

Well, I might dump the brand and explore other manufacturers. A major selling point was that warranty.

Manufacturers warranty is always transferable. I believe the $0 cost maintenance cannot transfer to 2nd owner.
