Instrumented tests from C&D on 991 GT3 and M5 should provide the answer
http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...-911-gt3-1.pdf http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ad-test-review 991 GT3 is quicker in every acceleration test... Quote:

not in 30-50 but regardless having driven a 911 c2s with powerkit I will be very surprised if the gt3 does 0-60 in 3 seconds flat or maybe the jump really is that massive. I am sure some on the forums will confirm.

Remember US times are usually with a 1 foot rollout, which is good for 0,2-0,5s over a "euro style" 0-60MPH time.

If you take the instrumented times and look how long it takes to go from 60-150MPH, the GT3 is still faster... GT3 takes 14,1s to go from 60-150 M5 takes 14,6s to go from 60-150 Of course, both cars are accelerating at full throttle at 60MPH in the above example, so not a pure rolling start from 60MPH. My bet is that the M5 would be closer from a pure rolling start than what is shown above. It would probably be a very close race |

I have no doubt my car would pull a stock M5 from roll as well. But as @Boss330 said, it would be closer as higher hp prevails into the triple digit world.

A C2S is close to a second slower, and lacks the PDK-S so no go on that race. The darn thing just has too much grip, and 475 HP is under stated in my opinion. |

It's a very light car plus they under-rated the power output a little. Couple all that with excellent traction, u get one heck of a power efficient car. M5 has problem putting down all its torque. Go beyond 60mph and the M5 would rule.

I spent this past Sunday playing in the Santa Monica mountains with my brother in a GT3.
The way that car grips the pavement is mind blowing. From a dig not a chance. M5 was able to maintain composure from 50+ but the GT3 is such a magnificent execution of a drivers car my M5 might as well be a Chevy Tahoe in comparison. Ferris phrased it best " If you have the means I highly recommend picking one up".

so are you guys saying it is hard to get the gt3 sideways? On a road car I look more for the fun factor than the grip factor. Can you still have fun with GT3? Does it drift?

No disrespect man but seriously, that is the craziest question. You need to DRIVE or GET A RIDE in one. It is hands down THE most FUN car on the planet to drive, excepting much higher priced supercars, and even then it beats many. Feels like a freaking race car, sticks like glue, geared to pull hard, insane throttle response and a glorious sound! It is EVERYTHING that a real driver's car should be!
And yes...you can do burnouts.-LOL

The sound!!!!! The chassis!!!!! The steering!!!!! So the performance numbers are there at a rather impressive clip but so is the driving experience. This combo is rarely found in a car at all levels: straights, launches, curves, steering, brakes, chassis, handling, rear wheel steering, tq vectoring, etc.... and the "driving experience". @PhilT3 ... there might not be any more allocations but there a few cars on the ground and moreso on the East Coast then West I think. I would do a cars.com search or autotrader to check (if not done so). As for the GTS- thats an incredible performer in its own right. I loved my C4S which had less power but it had the PSE and the 991 chassis. I have no seat time in the Z06 but the numbers show you its amazing too. I think the visuals are little aggressive but that fits my character.

I'm Tanin's brother, the one who was driving the Speed Yellow '15 Porsche 911 GT3 last week.
To answer the OP's question, I'd say the GT3 is quicker if it uses launch control (which it does in every instrumented test), but the turbocharged M5 — with much better low-end torque — will be quicker off the line than the naturally aspirated high-revving Porsche if both are forced to start without the electronic nannies. Under acceleration, it will be very, very close. The GT3 is more than 1,000 pounds (half-a-ton!) lighter, which more than compensates for its lower horsepower and torque, and it screams to 9,000 rpm between shifts. My suggestion is to get a jump on the GT3... and you've got him. - Mike
