Paint Correction
Hey guys,
Need your input on paint correction. Is it worth it? My 2013 m5 is not in a bad shape, but I just feel like it might be a good time to get her cleaned up. Questions: 1) is it worth it? 2) what's a good price? 3) any recommended shops/people in south Florida? Thanks! Last edited by alex91; 04-25-2016 at 04:18 PM.. |

Paint correction is always worth it, especially with dark cars in sunny regions like Florida!
What method do you use to wash your car? The most important bit of having corrected paint is for it to stay like that for as long as possible. I'm not sure about prices/shops as I live in the UK. |

Price depends on your geographical market and the expertise of the detailer. A solid detailer will charge 500-1000 depending on the level of correction to the clear coat. If you want a high end ceramic coating like CQuartz and/or Xpel (quality protective film) then you're going to be in the 1500-2500 range. Sorry I am on west coast, so not much help there.

Every time you compound/polish your paint (clear coat) you remove some clear coat. Detailers that know what they are doing use an electronic paint coating gage. It measures the thickness of up to 3 layers of substrate. You have to know what the clear coat thickness before you can start correction. The thickness is typically measured in mils. The detailer measures the whole car documenting the thickness of the clear coat on each body panel and then determines the amount of correction to be performed. Most detail shops do not have this level of expertise. The paint gage alone is about $2400. If you want it don't right go to a pro but expect to pay top dollar. So after you've spent good coin fixing your paint you have to maintain it just as carefully. I would suggest using a foam cannon and 2 bucket wash (only if really dirty) to maintain, along with quality cleaning products and the best microfiber you can find. Good luck!!

It's worth it - I've had a couple of cars done now and my m5 is booked in in June....full correction and two coats of zymol Royle...I use a leaf blower to dry my car off after a two bucket wash - gets the car bone dry with no risk of scratches....!

just food for thought, if your car isn't garage kept, driven daily, it's simply not worth it. a perfect paint correction just won't last, marring will come back after weekly washes, rain, the godam sprinkler hitting it, bird crap etc. i'm in south fla too. what color is your car?
imo, it's for a garage queen. |

Yeah my car is garaged at night - I think the rest depends on the wax you use - two coats of zymol Royal will last about 12 months - so once the car is corrected and protected - you simply give it a careful two bucket wash with grit guard leaf blower dry it and and then use zymol field glaze and your back to looking amazing again....take a dirty bucket and sponge to it and a wash leather and yeah you'll be back to swirls in no time! I guess it depends what you enjoy - I love driving the car but I love it looking its best - the m5 hasn't been detailed yet - it looks pretty good already to me!😀

TrevorM3,
I have the SG. I love the color, but it definitely requires more maintenance. Probably as much as black paint. The car is driven daily and gets everything that comes with it. But it also gets taken care of almost weekly, inside and out. Just love a clean car and feel like my paint looks a bit "tired" after almost 3 years of service. |

At first it seems like a lot of $$ until you see how much work goes into a proper paint correction. I agree with the guys saying will it really matter if it is a daily driver because I just went through paying $$$$ for paint correction, expel and full ceramic coating. It was a big investment but I figured it should help the daily grind (rock, salt, scratches). It also makes the weekly wash a ton easier.
Here is my full process and results so you can see the work involved: http://www.detailingbliss.com/topic/...ramic-coating/ |

I did a paint correction on my wife's car today along with a detail and paid close to $500. Her paint is fairly good, clean, with minimal contamination and marring. I've seen it run close to $1k-3k depending on what is needed.
It does look amazing!!!

I recently did a paint correction on my JetBlack paint as I had lots of scratches/swirls. Ordered all my stuff from Chemical Guy's. Its time consuming but the results are rewarding
Here's the reflection off the roof! Hood! Trunk!
