So my 2013 M5 is a drinker.....

Hey all,

Bought my 2013 Stock M5 with 39,124 miles on it from Braman BMW here in West palm December 21st 20 days ago. has service records, 4 records including plug gap back in 15, 4 services, oil changes an older guy who lives on the water wasnt a hard driver as I recognized the car when I bought it and dealer confirmed he lived on the street i named. Anyway about 39,800 miles i checked oil level since my 535i would drink some every 3k miles ( redlined it daily, did top speed runs once in a while, downshifted, had turbo's replaced 2 times over the 70K miles I had it) anyway, when checking it was half way down to the min. so I had a bottle of my BMW turbopower stuff 0w30 laying around and poured it in. I am at 40450 and its looks like another 300 miles or so it will be asking for oil.

Driving habits are, comfort mode when I make an effort to keep MPG over 10 and when toodling my pregnant woman around so she doesnt hate the car. 30% of the time I do redline a couple times a day and enjoy downshifting when coming to a stop. I know BMW says 750 miles per liter is "acceptable", but theres no smoke or leaks visually or anything like that. is there a different weight or brand I should run? I have service contract for another 4 months, so oil is free. But also on that note, should I ask them to change plugs since our book says plug change every 4 oil changes or 60K miles. I have the easy "total care" which is an exclusionary coverage, so it covers pretty much everything but rotors and pads.
so to sum up
is there a better oil to run other than BMW's 0w30
do I need to drive the car harder more of the time?
do I need to stop downshifting when coming to stop lights?

Anything anyone thinks about this I would love to hear.
thanks for reading

Where do you live? I live in south Florida so it's 80 yr round pretty much. I called my service and he said 0w30 but for my vin 0w30 is what it calls for, and I could use 0w40 if in a pinch. I am going to speak to tech supervisor at my bmw dealer tomorrow.

I would start with a heavier oil, as suggested 0w-40 is a "stock" fill depending on your environment. Being warm in FL all the time, I wouldn't hesitate to run 0w-40. Brand is your own decision...

That's what I was thinking,
Who packs bmw's oil now? Mobile or shell? I can't remember

It used to be Castrol, now it's Shell. For what it's worth, I run Mobil 1 0w-40 and I live in the Northeast.

1600 miles on the dot almost and added another qrt. They insisted on 0w30 bmw oil. I asked for 2 quarts so I didn't have to come back for the next top off. I'm going to have to do less downshifting or engine breaking coming up to lights at high rpms.

2013 in Canada.. I'm using 0W-30. My owners manual says 0W-30 or 0W-40, but the same manual on the bmw app says 0W-30 or 5W-30.
