I had similar codes pop up once a few months ago. I would clear all fault codes using your scanner, drive the car and see if the drivetrain malfunction error pops up again on the idrive system or the car goes into limp mode. If so, then you know what to address but sometimes it could just be a silly error code that isn't exactly true (like what happened to me).

When's the last time you replaced spark plugs? What is your current mileage? Running a tune?

Hi

Plugs were apparently changed about 600miles who by previous owner. It’s running stock and has 83k on the car, 30k on the engine.

Thinking of swapping plugs out for peace of mind once I get my e39 out of the garage

EML hasn't come back on and haven't had the chance to change plugs either yet.

Finally got around to changing all plugs and coil packs. Coil packs were original from 2013 - thought I might as well change while doing plugs.

Oil is next on the list
