Yeah....it's that adrenaline feeling followed by a sinking feeling and your heart jumping into your throat. I wrecked my first car at a much slower speed drifting on gravel roads and being a dumb kid. Worst feeling ever.

How ?? Why ??

Sudden movement / reaction at high speed is definitely a factor...

smooth operation of the car is the safer way to go...

had to have rolled, right? Look at how the A-pillar is crushed down, look at all the mud, crud, and grass all over the right side passenger door frame... must've rolled.

I'm amazed and gratified that the occupants weren't dead on the scene. Also, that wheel and suspension bit that flew off... they're apparently from the rear of the car. I see both front wheels still on.

Again: amazing nobody died instantly.

Looks like an M5 convertible prototype

Hope everyone recovers soon. That's on real bad accident I've ever seen. Glad they survived.

Well those kind of accidents happen when there are some idiots not looking in their rearview mirror before going on the left (fast) lane. I had those critical situations myself many times. Most recently in the GT3 RS 4.0 when I came flying at 201 mph and some guy randomly drives onto the left lane even the right lane was completely empty. Everything went well though...

I still have to say, even we have the high speed Autobahn, there are still far less accidents than in the US (where I reside at the moment).

Glad the cabin stayed intact. BMWs are ridiculously safe cars. Wish the injured the best recovery...

That is actually my favorite stretch of autobahn linking Wurzburg to Stuttgart . Very few cars and the road is spectacular !!! I drive that often when I'm over there as my in-laws live in Altheim.
Just off the Ahorn exit

I hope they recover fast. here is the google translation of the incident.
A man with his BMW on the A81 from Singen to Stuttgart on the go. In the driveway Tuningen wanted to enter another motorist on the A81, but probably overlooked the rapidly approaching from behind BMW. This was evident at around 300 km / h road, startled, turned to the left, came into a spin and crashed right into the barriers. In counter-steering the car came to the right again banquet, overturned several times and was only 100 yards to rest. The driver of the vehicle was completely demolished by his two sons rescued from the vehicle. The two sons were also traveling in a BMW on the drive home after the father. Since the BMW of the father probably started to smoke from the engine room, one of the two sons put out a fire extinguisher the truck. The incoming fire Tuningen took care of the ambulance and cleared the road of dirt and debris. The bruised BMW driver was the ambulance to the hospital. The ride-dog in the car the man was also injured. On the car was a total loss. The A81 was closed completely between Tuningen and Villingen-Schwenningen to traffic. At the exit Tuningen traffic was diverted. addition to rescue helicopter CH 11 were several ambulances and paramedics at the scene. The Highway Patrol has started the investigation room.

In the article I've linked to above it says it was a family. The father and the dog in the M5 (no passenger) and his two sons in M3 and M6. They were driving home behind their dad when another car cut the father off at 190mph. He was taken by surprise and just turned left, hit the barrier, swerved to the right and flipped in the grass about 100 meters. One of the sons had a little fire extinguisher which he used while the other pulled his dad out of the wreck.

Yes, you never know when some idiot on the Autobahn in the middle lane just switches to the fast lane without even looking. Some even do it on purpose because out of jealousy they wanna teach them a lesson "oh, he has a big car so let him do the braking, i'm too comfy here.". F*cking assh*les.
In the news comments it says the driver who cut them off didn't stop. So basically he fled the scene. Yes, maybe he just panicked. Maybe he just realized what an idiot he was being.

I'm getting the M5 without a limiter and I will never get near that speed. Not smart. If you gotta do it, get on a track.

Regardless, it was the other vehicle that was being careless that cause that accident.

It doesnt matter, we can be doing the speed limit and all it take is some idiot to cut you off unexpectedly and you react and next thing you know your down in a ditch.
