Modesta BC-05 Glass Coating
Professionally detailed by Paul Dalton at Miracle Detail. Protected with Modesta BC-05 on the paintwork, wheels & exhaust tips. Glass, tyres & plastics protected with various GTechniq sealants.
The pictures do not do the gloss justice. The video Paul has posted on YouTube provides a better view of the level of gloss: I've included a couple of pictures of the self-cleaning properties of the Modesta Glass Coating. |

This product is sprayed on correct? Can anyone comment on durability thus far?
I was hoping for the look of Cquartz Finest but the durability of Optocoat 2.0 I'm currently 12 months into 22PLE and so far it's held up very well here in hot, humid Houston. |

Interesting. Car looks amazing. Can you post pictures after you do your first "Water Blast". If I read correctly, once applied you don't have to use soap to wash the car?

BC-03 (hydrophilic) & BC-05 (hydrophobic) are applied similar fashion to 22PLE (although I believe BC-03 utilises wet microfiber to remove residue), however, care/experience is advised/needed as best to apply as a thick coating and has potential to go very wrong (my car has the P-01A primer, so Paul said total coating thickness should be 3-5 microns assuming worst case). I have only had it on my car for 6 weeks so cannot comment on durability yet, however, it fully hardens over 2 weeks, so the gloss has improved from the pictures/video above. Finish is optically clear. I have previous had GTechniq C1 + EXO on my cars (easily got 2 years plus from that if professionally applied), and initial impressions are that Modesta BC-05 will simple blow that combo away. BC-05 is heat resistant to 1000 deg. C - the only thing sticking to my paintwork is tree sap (can easily be knocked off with finger nail - with care) - tar is not sticking (it's simply removed with slightly firm pressure on wash mitt) and so far I have no baked on brake dust spots on the wheels, although have only done 900-ish miles. Only thing it's not able to do is add much noticeable resistance to stone/rock chips - which F10 paintwork seems to be quite susceptible to. I didn't go with a paint shield/clear bra as I didn't like the finish of the films. HTH. Last edited by Dionysus; 10-13-2013 at 05:27 PM.. |

I use Zaino Z7 instead, dry and then wipe down sparingly with Modesta M1SHOT quick detailer after every wash. Not sure if you are thinking of BC-03 - this is hydrophilic, so has strong self cleaning properties. Feedback Paul has had from his customers suggest that cars protected with BC-03 are hardly getting dirty in the first place. Modesta do, however, produce a detergent for BC-03. I have BC-05 which behaves like normal glass/ceramic sealants, i.e. some self cleaning, however, does need agitation with wash mitt and not just water via pressure washer to fully clean. The wheels were exceptionally dirty, and they came up looking like the picture above with just Zaino shampoo, microfiber wash mitt and detailing brushes. It is expensive, however, I haven't regretted it (ensure you pick an experienced detailer though). Last edited by Dionysus; 11-13-2013 at 08:17 AM.. |

As a tip, you may want to try M1SHOT as a QD over the 22PLE. M1 can be layered |

I'm considering polishing off the 22PLE and going for the BC-06 over entire car, wheels, and exhaust tips. You mentioned you thought the BC-06 was overkill. Even for wheels and exhaust you think? |

Yes, sorry, M1 will blow away other quick detailing sprays, so it may be worth a go over other sealants. It's never going to be as good as a stand alone product over the modesta glass coatings then M1 to maintain. If you do decide to go with modesta I would recommend P-01A primer plus either BC-03 or BC-05 (depends on what your hoping to achieve).
The modesta shampoo restores the glass coating properties but is way too expensive, hence, why I went P-01A+BC-05+M1. |

BC-06 is good, overkill comment was in regards to heat resistance; I don't believe stock exhausts & wheels/brake dust get to 1300 deg C (I don't track mine & stand to be corrected)? BC-03 & BC-05 are the more developed glass coatings and, hence, more expensive. Note that modesta is based on an industrial mould release agent/coating used in Japan, then developed for automotive paintwork to protect inferior (to BMW) paint in relatively harsh environmental conditions (compared with UK at least). BC-06 will work very well on paintwork, exhaust & wheels, 03 & 05 can be considered the next step up. I'll try and find the facts sheet and post here later today. Think of 3 as something you would apply to skyscraper windows, i.e. leave it alone, exceptional self cleaning, needs specific modesta shampoo to restore hyrdophilic properties (no idea how frequently). Car will hardly get dirty in the first place. Think of 5 as normal hydrophobic glass sealant, can wash with any decent PH balanced shampoo, etc. More frequent maintenance than 3, but perhaps easier. In terms of finish, both 3 & 5 will provide a liquid gloss type look (the darker the colour, the greater the depth) bear in mind that most of the gloss will come from the finish to the paint underneath, hence, the Aston has a better starting point than BMW (would have to wet sand out the BMW orange peel to get the best looking finish). I will get some feedback from Paul as to what he recommends. Last edited by Dionysus; 11-13-2013 at 11:30 AM.. |
