Starting in 2nd gear

I did a search but not could not find this issue. Pardon me if this is duplicated.

2015 M5 DCT. Sometimes from a dead stop it will shift back down into 1st and most of the time just to 2nd. Major pain as the car struggles to take off often slipping 2nd gear clutch for extended period. This can't be good for the clutch. Any idea what is going on here? Is it just a simple software update? Car was just in for service about 3 weeks ago.

What tension is your transmission set at? Second gear start on flat ground can be normal if in D1 even D2.

It does it in both. So if a flat surface is the determining factor?

I'm pretty sure I've noticed this in the comfort setting. I think it's just a way to make sure the start rolls very smoothly in certain situations. You can also choose to start in second gear from a stop if you want to manually. This is especially good for starting on snowy roads.

In D3 should always move to 1st gear. However, starting in second isn't abnormal. If your clutches are slipping then that's a different story.....

Unfortunately this is all too normal. This why I don't use the D modes. Even in S3 you have to either come to basically a dead stop before it will drop to 1, so most of the time I have to click the paddle one or more times to convince the DCT to drop to 1.

I noticed mine starts in 2nd if I come to a gentle stop. Stop slightly more abruptly and it starts in 1st.

Mine starts in 2nd all the time in comfort mode, so I stopped using it. Drives much better in M1.

It also doesnt like to downshift to first when I go up my steep ass driveway so I usually have to downshift to get it to actually make progress up the damn hill. That drives me nuts.

Mine never starts in 2nd, whether in auto or manual mode, and 1, 2, or 3 makes no difference. Like this on my LCI, as well as my former 2013. Most days I would love to start in 2nd all the time as long as there was no slippage as mentioned by the OP.

When its starts first time in 2gear just tap litle gaspedal and it change 1st gear and newer start 2 gear in this driveing. But when you turn off engine. And start engine again when start 2 gear you have to do this again. But just litle tap accelerator pedal and change 1st gear.

Lot of good feedback here. It can be a pain as unless I am watching the shift indicator I am not sure what gear it is in. Then we I try to sprint and it starts in 2nd it is slow. The double gear move to right does work. However, since I drive it about every day I don't want to paddle shift all the time. I guess I just suck it up and drive it like I stole it.

Dealer or tuner can re adapt the clutches for you. Takes about 15 min, transmission has to be up to temp.
