Coolant questions

So I have an F10 M5. Coolant has NEVER been changed since it came from the factory (Euro Delivery).

Had the heat protection recall done. Got a low coolant light, and found it was leaking at the hoses (and ate through part of the cooling mat). Topped up with some distilled water and crimped the hoses.

Now, here's the really odd thing. The main radiator coolant isn't blue/green. It's a yellow orange color (at least that's what it seemed like when I saw the leakage)! The ECU/Intercooler coolant IS blue/green. I'm perplexed. I've been googling around for what a yellow/orange coolant is, and I can't find any info on it at all. Does anyone else have this or have any clue?

I'm definitely not the only one, as it's the same as seen in this video with the yellow stains (but not as bad):

Yes, owned from new, straight from the factory from a euro delivery, so I'm super confused as to what it is.

Also, if anyone ever needs it, here are the coolant change instructions for our car.

Pulled some coolant, did ph test and voltage test. It looks good, but it's orange. Anyone have any clue why?

Looks like this. Doesn't look dirty or murky.

I just found the same thing on my 2015. Had a low coolant light but can’t find any leaks. It was 1.5 quarts low. But on top of that I noticed it was a orange/gold/brown color just like in your pic.

This gives me some comfort, that someone else has the same but is definitely confusing. Anyone have any ideas yet?

I've got blue in mine so maybe different fill from factory for US with the harsher winters there.

I would completely drain the orange fluid and replace with the blue BMW fluid. Most likely the orange was used in error as BMW has always used blue. I believe Audi's use that color. I would imagine there are different properties between the two.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but i've just experienced the same thing on my newly purchased F10 M5.

The car recently had a coolant leak which is now fixed but I thought I should check the coolant colour before I added the regular BMW blue stuff I got from my local BMW dealer.

Now one thing to note here is that my car had a new engine a couple of years back (late 2018) and i know BMW now have a green coolant (HT-12) that is used in newer vehicles.

I'm wondering if you had/have and I have the newer coolant? FYI in real life it looks almost like the colour of olive oil so not orange more green.

Pics of the stuff i just pulled here:

Thanks in advance all!

For anyone else in the same situation I had a BMW head technician tell me it didn't look like any BMW coolant he'd seen so I flushed it and replaced with the blue stuff 👍
