Real time traffic

So, the car comes with real time traffic in the nav system (just like my 2011 M3 did). Has anyone else had problems with this? I went to use it yesterday because I was sitting in traffic. I knew there was an accident ahead, but the triangle icon with the '!' in the middle said that there was nothing to report.

It seems like the car isn't connecting. Also, the My BMW remote app hasn't worked since I took delivery. It worked fine with the M3, but won't locate the M5 even when I am sitting in it.

Anyone have similar problems, or am I headed back to the dealership?

Im trying to figure out my BMW remote app as well. Just haven't had time to figure it all out since taking delivery at the begining of the month. I did downlod the two BMW apps to my I-phone......but what now? I may have to call BMW Assist and get everything set up properly...passwords and such.

Let me know if you have any luck.

Also from a prior thread............are you aware of RealOEM.com? It is a great website that has all the BMW parts files. You can go into the site and look up any part on the car.

Works great in my country. However, the reliability, accuracy and availability of the service depends on the percentage of BMW "floating car data" vehicles in the area and the availability of other sources of traffic data from third parties (like from smartphones). It is in fact a challenge to get it right.

My BMW remote app tells me where my phone is instead of where my car is.

Swung by the dealership. It took them about 3 minutes, or less, to find a menu deep down in the iDrive that needed an update. Was all done in the car and now everything works the way it should.

Nope. The real time traffic is integrated with the NAV and doesn't require a cell phone at all.

Do you experience problems when sending routes or adresses from Bmw/My routes to you car?

It only worked once for me. Is there any limitation in time? I wonder if the fact of having the car parked in a carpark long hours with no connectivity makes it impossible to deliver the message.
Thanks

The way to check if your car is connecting is to press the SOS button and ask them if they are receiving data from the car.

Generally I have found the traffic feature to be every bit as accurate as the traffic feature on google maps.

Not 100% true. I was talking with the SOS folks several times when I was trying to get this all worked out. They were receiving data from the car and were very helpful with everything, but couldn't fix the actual problem.

It turned out that there was a software patch that needed to be downloaded from within the iDrive. The SOS folks had no way of knowing that so they couldn't fix it.

Lual, not sure if having a car parked in the garage has an impact on sending locations to the car. Do you have the My BMW App on your phone? The best way is to check and see if it can show your car's location. If it can, you should be able to send the addresses.

@GNALUZ
@Stealth.Pilot

If you or anyone else reading is having issues with Connected Drive and it's related features such as:

>> BMW Assist
- Intelligent Emergency Call
- Concierge Services
- MyInfo
- Real Time Traffic Info (RTTI)
- Remote Climate Control
- Remote Door Lock/Unlock
- Remote Horn/Light
- Vehicle Finder
>> BMW Online
- Driver Profiles
>> TeleServices
- Teleservice Update

You should:
- Verify you have an active contract and the associated email address is correct by calling BMW Assist at (888) 333-6118.
- Note that it sometimes takes 48 hours for services to work after services are activated (after contract is signed).

If you still are having issues:
- Bring the car into the dealer and ask them to check Connected Drive Service Cockpit to troubleshoot your issue(s).

ConnectedDrive Service Cockpit is a new program BMW rolled out on 01/14. It now allows dealers to easily and effectively troubleshoot any and all issues related to ConnectedDrive.

If they are unaware of it, show them the images attached to this thread. It describes how to get to CD Service Cockpit from DCSNet.

Also attached is a screenshot of what they see to troubleshoot the ConnectedDrive related issue you are having.

You can check if your car is getting a good GPS signal and Cellular signal by enabling the hidden iDrive menu.

- Press Menu and bring the iDrive cursor to the top.
- Push controller up for 10 seconds
- Turn Controller 3 Clicks Right
- Turn Controller 3 Clicks Left
- Turn Controller 1 Click Right
- Turn Controller 1 Click Left
- Turn Controller 1 Click Right
- Press Controller Down Once

If the last step (push controller down once) did not select the highlighted menu, then it worked.

Go to settings and you will now see a "Service Menu". You can see a few different values and settings within the service menu.
