O.J. Simpson was acquitted 30 years ago today

On Oct. 3, 1995, the football Hall of Famer was found not guilty of a double murder, including ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson.

Quote:
“If the gloves don’t fit, you must acquit.” Then, the acquittal happened — exactly 30 years ago.

The so-called “Trial of the Century” concluded on Oct. 3, 1995, where O.J. — who died in 2024 at age 76 — was acquitted in the double homicides of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

More than 100 million people reportedly tuned in to the televised verdict. And more than three decades later, the murders remain unsolved.

My theory was since Rodney King beating the assailants went free and LA burned the OJ trial was botched to preserve the city.

All those rich people swarming about his corner didn't hurt either. If he'd been a poor guy it never would have even made it to court for a jury. You can't outrun karma (especially in a Bronco).

This is one of those things where I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard the news. I was in my senior year of college (I started late) and had received a scholarship from NASA along with a few other students. Piddly amount of money, but the school made a big deal out of it. In any case, they held a luncheon for us and the visiting NASA folks. We were right in the middle of the lunch when the word came down that he was acquitted. A collective groan and mutual head shaking came next.

I remember exactly where I was as well. Our department secretary at the time was following the trial like a hawk, and told all of us that the jury was coming back in with the verdict from a radio news flash. We went down the hall to a lounge, turned on the TV, and watched the verdict as it was being read with about 75 other people standing outside in the hallway because the room was full. She flipped out at the verdict, and IIRC wasn't employed with us for much longer because I can't even remember her name.....
