Dodge Viper thermostat
Anyone running motorad 880090 thermostat ? Seen this recommended by engine builder Troy Jeup and seems like a good idea for those engines.
He also mentions running it on the s63 Curious if anyone here is doing so |

Engine oil needs to reach at least 212f to be able to burn off condensates etc and if the engine/oil can't do so then your oil suffers. If your oil suffers, your engine suffers. If the oem coolant thermostat opens at 179 then the engine is taking longer to get the oil to that 212. If you replace the tstat to a 190 then you reduce that window and in a street car the engine can potentially get to temp faster.

Since it's pretty much the same engine, would be interesting to know the part number on that f90 tstat.

He kind of skips over the s63TU but I have heard him mention 5w50 in the past as well. Thing is, he's in the midwest (michigan?). My M5 has been and, God willing, will always be an NC car, garage kept so it never has to come up to temp from excessively low temps. I'll listen to his perspective on 5w50, just not sure it makes sense to swap oil given my climate/location. Maybe does...not sure at this point but I have an oil change coming. Keep in mind that our cars are turbo too, So there's a lot more heat involved. that extra weight might help things out. Again, not 100% sure, but it makes sense to me.

Just a quick google check and the m5 thermostat is electric and the viper one isn't.
