M5 in the snow
Had the first snow last week, today is first "big snow" just a few inches in Western New York. I was just going to garage the car the for the winter but just said screw it and slapped some Pirelli Sottozero 3s on it, the car is a beast in the snow.
Took the tune off and just driving in D1 instead of S1, handles like a champ, traction like a champ. Did a few "test runs" just to get comfortable with it just in case, I wanted to get a feel for the car in these conditions. TC is remarkable, very very impressive, ride is extremely smooth because of the extra cushion. I was hesitant to drive it winter but in Toronto (I'm pretty close to there) they drive anything in the snow, M5s, porsches, etc so I said if they can do it, I can. You def can!!

I realized this after I bought a snow wheel setup because while it's not me I'm worried about, the other people on the road are sure to crash into me.

When it snowed here in Seattle in February, I took the car out for some photos but after getting like no traction, I just parked the car in the garage and took the Subaru out. I have a 7° incline on my driveway and the M5 couldn't even make it up on its own power (had to get pushed up).

Have been driving my M5 as my daily driver. Will be DD this car during the winter in MN this year. So far we have had a few snow falls, but nothing to extreme. Car has performed great with no complaints. You must have a winter tire setup if you want to get ANY traction in cold/snow weather. Will keep you all posted!! Drive safe

My winter setup for my CP is OEM 19" 408m's with Pirelli SottoZero's. Had this setup on my old non-CP M5 as well. No issues and handles better than a non-M xdrive with all-seasons.

I just bought a set of used 345M wheels (the stock 19's) and a new set of Pirelli Sotto Zero 3's to go on them. I've always driven M5's in the snow. The combination of good handling and balance makes them ideal winter cars too. Pure snow tires are a must though. All season tires will be OK most of the time but no good in actual snow.

Third winter for me driving the M5, also in Toronto. Never had any issues as long as my winter/snow tires were mounted. The car is surprisingly we mannered in snow, and a lot of fun to go sideways!

I used to drive my old E34 M5 in the snow, its the diffs that make the M5 so good in the snow....as long as you have decent winter tires. In Scandinavia we are allowed to run studded tires, they make all the difference in icier conditions.
