Drivers door lock problem

Hi all

Not used my m5 for a few weeks due to bad weather and decided to take it out today. As it was frosty last night, it was hard to open the door but after opening it wouldn't close. It was like the latch didnt want to catch and the handle was loose. The only was to close the door was to hold it shut and lock it with the key.

Any ideas what this could be?

I was gutted as it means I couldn't use it

Thanks in advance

I would spray a bit of WD40 on the mechanism as it may have a bit of friction hindering it

Thanks will try that when I get back tonight, hoping the door actually opens now. pulling the handle felt very loose compared to other doors.

Sounds like the cable from the handle to the latch is gunked up and sticking. Or the lever on the latch (inside the door, not the latch plates themselves that you can see).

It was very weird.....got home unlocked car and it opened normally, just like this morning was in my head. Must of been something to do with the cold.

Just glad my baby is ok, not getting driven enough with the rubbish weather and the roads I drive to work on. I won’t even start of my e39 m5, that’s done about 150miles since February
