Oil consumption
Hi guys,
I know these cars drink oil like it's going out of fashion, but I wondered if mine has a serious drinking problem. Bought the car at 32k miles, now 15 months, and 7k miles later, it has drunk 7 ltr of oil. That's about 800 or so miles for every liter of oil. Is this normal? |

Same experience. Mine has consumed 3 liters in 2000 miles and dealer said it's normal and to be expected. I'll deal with it.

Did you try opening up your airboxes to check for excessive oil blowby? You might need your pcv valve replaced.
Dealer told me the same thing, drinks oil, and to drive the car hard as its designed for. But I dont have excessive oil consumption though. |

Post-seating and break in, I don't see how any reputable OEM would consider 1L/800-1k miles as 'normal'. The turbos or heat in general is cooking this stuff off along with some blow by (soot on my exhaust tips).
That shis be all kinda forked up. |

High performance, high compression engines do that. Toyota Camry engines don't, for the sake of comparison.

I'm glad you posted this because mine also has required no top ups in the 2500miles I've driven it (2014 CP, bought it with 9900miles as CPO) and I was beginning to worry that something was wrong with my oil sensor since it still registers full when I force a check and there are so many people talking about their cars using oil. My E60 M5 used oil, but still only about 1qt every 5000 miles or so. -Dave |

I have 45k miles on mine. It is getting to be pretty annoying going through a quart every 800-1000 miles. Had 5 AMG's previously not a one consumed oil. Mine is a 2013, maybe it was worse in the earlier years.

Mine is in the shop for Oil Consumption Analysis. 4qt of oil within 1k miles, that's 250 miles per qt. Pretty much the same mileage as a modern Diesel engine.
I doubt it will pass the test. I don't want a new engine, but most likely going back to an F80 M3. The S55 doesn't drink oil and has better mpg.

I bought the car used at 19k miles. The first owner didn't break-in correctly. Note to self, never buy a used M car again. http://www.autoevolution.com/news/he...oil-87694.html

Topping up oil like some of these members are stating is unacceptable. Bottom line. My 6.3 AMG burns 0 oil never a top up in 8k miles. Bought it with 21k. Besides this whole burning oil thing seems to be more common on the 13 m5's. |

I am at 1L/850 miles with 3500 on the odo so i will wait until 7500 miles to determine if my motor has settled down on oil usage before drawing final conclusions on my own power plant. |
