Sounds familiar to me. This kinda noise only appears to me at 2nd gear when I release gas pedal and it’s after cold start only. My car is in the shop for mod now, I can talk to my mechanics about this and see what they say.

I've driven multiple f10 m5 from low k miles to higher k miles and they all have that in common when the transmission is cold. I have to say that on the higher mileage ones the noise is louder, takes longer to go away, and can be heard on all the low gears. I did read somewhere that it may be coming from the dct pump but have not confirmed that that's what's causing it or why it even makes noise.

I was always under the impression that this was filter noise, as the oil is being drawn through the filter when cold you can sometimes get a whizzing noise. I replaced my filters and oil on dct and noise went away. Came back after a few k miles.
Had a similar noise on my e60 diesel in the past, filter again. |

It appeared on my M6 for the first time two weeks ago. Now the car is at the dealer, they can not find the reason for this shit.
Two months ago, they changed oil in DSG. https://youtu.be/V1EsvRcpF8M |

I recommend a DCT diagnostic at a reputable independent auto g/box specialist.Having this done at a dealership for sure will be many euros.

I've recently noticed the same noise. Took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't replicate it. It's most obvious on colder days when I'm shifting and letting revs drop through that range in 2nd.

I've been dealing with this issue for 5 years now. I even had two transmissions replaced under CPO and the noise is still there. During the summer, this noise is not there. But when the cold weather hits, it appears but goes away after 10 minutes or so of driving. Very frustrating but glad to see that its not a unique issue to my car.

Imagine blowing hard through a few pieces of flat paper, it makes a squealing noise, same applies when fluid is pushed through filter paper.
Noise goes away for a while upon filter replacement, as they age slightly it comes back. Takes a few k miles, at least mine did. |

I have had the same exact issue for the last couple of months. Same noise and only happens when the weather is cold. The colder the weather the more frequent the noise. Now that the weather warmed up this week the noise is gone. Has anyone found out what the real problem here is because none of the shops I went to can see an issue.

im so glad my car gets to stay in a garage and we dont get frigid temps.
My guess is that is just cold gears. my landcruiser does that for about a mile when its cold out and its cold. and we all know the lexus is just fine. just be easy with it when cold. |

Hi All,
I decided to write this post as there is now one who could solve the problem. Obviously, a car should not make this kind of noises. There is no question that you should go to the next M-Service. The sound that we hear in the video comes from the gearbox. The reason is that air is in the system, which should not be there in normal circumstances. Usually this happens when oil was exchanged recently. M Service has to perform the necessary tests and the air must be removed. After the test, new software is downloaded to the system. I was explained, our box can "learn" over time. After that, the unpleasant sounds disappeared. Moreover, the car drives now even more aggressively than usual in the economic mode. Please contact your service point and tell them to film the problem and send it to the headquarter in Munich. They know how to solve this problem and they will send instructions for the tests. Software to solve this problem was created just a couple of months ago, and therefore many servicepoints simply don’t know about it and dismiss everything as normal. Wish everyone to enjoy their M-monster. Greeting from Baden-Baden |

Hello everyone, the car was at my dealer for 5 days and they were in contact with Munich. Sound recordings have been made and some tests have been carried out and step-by-step instructions have been followed. It has led to nothing and is classified as normal. The problem is not known in Munich.
