M5 damage
Hiya guys,
A few weeks ago someone damaged my M5, still yet to get it sorted. I think it may be some sort of BB gun markings, but maybe someone has an idea? BMW have quoted me £750 to fix via a full front bumper respray, taking it off and refitting along with all the cameras and bits. Or £150 ish for a smart repair. I'd probably go this route. Any thoughts? Some nice people out there! Mat

ouch. sorry to see that Matt. definitely looks like BB or pellet dents to me. do you know if your neighbours kids have them? the little shits if they have done this
if Smart repairs can make it look brand new again for that price, I too would be going down that route. good luck in sorting it out mate

I'm not a fan of smart repairs, however, in your position I would go that route in this instance: - non-metallic, so should be relatively good paint match - F10 is highly susceptible to stone chips (my front bumper has small gouges and new 'marks' appear all the time) - eliminates the potential for issues with cameras, etc. during refit If you really wanted it restored to new, the other option worth considering is a fully painted bumper cover from Germany (I'm sure @StealthPilot has mentioned it in past threads). This will avoid the need for fillers, etc. |

I've got the same damage but only one hole around the same place as yours but my fault. I've yet to get a quote but I know it will be expensive

I have used smart repairs number of times on various car Porsche, Maserati, BMW etc and have been happy with the result, depends on the local 'man'.
A lot of garages use them to prepare their stock as its cheaper and quicker than putting cars through their own body shops. Find a local one and ask for some references for their work? |

So sorry to see, does your insurance cover it (comprehensive) without major increase in premium? Then I would of course go for full repair.
What is it lately that ///M5s get attacked??

Looks like an air rifle or shot gun pellet damage
Spend the £750

What a shame. I'd try to see if insurance would cover it first. If not then do smart repair. Then either clear bra the front bumper or wait until it gets more beat up by rock chips and then just respray the whole thing.

Consider potential carfax impact before bringing insurance into the mix. I have no clue if this would result in the damage showing on a carfax report, but if so, definitely pay out of pocket.

Hiya guys.
Thanks for the info. I have already priced up a new front bumper as it happens. Unfortunately BMW don't offer them painted from the factory (some parts are, some not). Cost £561 plus paint which isnt too bad IMO. However 70 percent of the £750 cost is the removal and refit with all the sensors and cameras so overall it would be much dearer. I must admit I am leaning towards the smart repair route as it is such small damage and worth a punt. If it doesn't look right I can spend the £750. I wouldn't go the insurance route as it will raise all my other policies. This didn't happen at home, I suspect it was when I was parked in Coventry. Thanks Mat |
