Cleaning the aluminum brake hats

How is everyone cleaning the brake hats? The front ones in particular are pretty filthy. I tried spraying some Sonax on it but only a bit came off. I guess some agitation might be needed but it's pretty hard to get in there even with the 20s. Advice anyone?

I took the wheels off then scrubbed them with a plastic kitchen scourer then used Mothers Metal polish to make them shiny again, they are not like brand new but are hugely improved

Yeah I feel like taking off the wheels is the only way to get at them. I'm getting new rotors in a few months so I guess I can try better when the new ones get in.

When you get new rotors I highly recommend getting the Center Hat of the rotor Cerakoted in Clear. Prevents rust and Brake dust.

That's a good idea. I've never thought of ceramic coating that.

I sanded mine with 60 grit and they came up looking nearly new, or at least 10 shades lighter than what they were when I bought the car.
