Are you trying to completely turn off traction control? If so, hold the DSC button for about 5 -8 seconds (in any mode)
If you are in MDM mode and want traction control ON, just press the DSC button once without holding it, and it this should turn off the MDM light and the DSC light

You can also go into your i-Drive to configure individual configuration of the M1 or M2 buttons to you liking

yeah no that doesn't work. I can either press the traction button that is on the surround of the gearshift knob and it will turn on the MDM light and the car with the skidmarks symbol and if I press it again it will cut them both off there is no way for me to turn MDM off and keep track control off. I'm so confused. but when MDM light is on it lets me spin plenty

If you hold down the button by the shifter knob for like 5 seconds they both will be off. On the dash it will show you traction off and mdm light will disappear (meaning it's off)

i think i need to go to the dealer. no matter what i do i have either both lights on or both lights off. i cant get the MDM light to go off and the 'car with skid marks' light to stay on. its either both on or both off for me.
no matter if im in neutral or in gear or s1 or s3 drive 10 miles , hold the button for 5,10,15 seconds i cant get just the 'car with skid marks' light to stay on and 'mdm' to disappear..
-maybe i need a software update? idk
-i also cant activate launch control im assuming because of this which is part of the process (ill never use it) but i want to play with and know everything about this bad ass car

It's a simple system. Regardless of the current state of the car, as long as the engine is running, all you have to do is hold down the traction control button for a few seconds. 3-5? If you're holding it even longer and it's still not working, you probably have an underlying issue with the differential or ABS system, etc. Do you have any warning lights? Do you have advanced code reader (like ISTA) to read out all modules in the car?

Did you try programming it into an M1/M2 memory and then activating M1/M2 to see if it works that way?

Your car is some wrong whit acc coding. Try to put this mdm seting on and push acc on. Car should take off acc automatic. If that works fine someone is coding your car that you can’t take all traction control off and this code have to change.

no warning lights. everything seems fine. I did try holding the button down for an extended period of time the other day and noticed that nothing happened and then if I went to just press the button like normal nothing happened like it had frozen the system or something. waited a few seconds pressed it quickly again and it was working again. I hope nothings wrong and I'm just making a novice error.

Find someone with Carly and see if there's an option for it that was turned off or something by the old owner

The manual is confusing on this issue but it seems to be saying that if the "car with slippery road no off" icon is lit all the time, either with the MDM or "car with slippery road with off" icons, there is a system fault.

I think you said you have car w/slippery no off icon, which means fault. The other icon maybe tells which system DSC or MDM is bad.
