Timing for purchasing BMW Extended Warranty?

Am buying my 2019 Z4 off lease in the next few weeks..

In service date = 12/28/2019 so almost at 3 year mark

I plan to buy BMW Platinum from one of the dealers mentioned on the forum when I searched.. (thanks) Price is btw $4k-$4400 depending which dealer.. That part is fine..

Here's the question: I COULD wait to buy this until this time next year.. My mileage is low & will never hit 50k mark.

With the crazy inflationary environment - am thinking this could backfire & maybe I should just get it now..

Thoughts? THANKS!!!

I dont know much about these policies because I dont purchase them. I just save the money for repairs later. But...to answer your question. I would purchase now as almost all things are going up in price. If timing does not change anything, go for it now.

I'd wait. Looks like the market is going down. At least that's what I've noticed when appraising cars and stuff.

No idea if prices will move up or down. I doubt anyone here knows that info.

I’d probably buy it now and close the chapter on it.

I agree with your decision to buy it though. Things can quickly get expensive if the car hits a repair OOW.

I personally never buy an extended warranty. I self insure. It has always worked out for me.

Is the 2019 Z4 a 4 year warranty? My google search says it came with 4yr/50K. Your lease may end, but the warranty does not.

If you buy a "X" year policy when you still have 12 months of factory coverage left, you are essentially throwing away 12 months of factory coverage.

My prior non-BMW used car purchase had about 8 months left on it when I got an aftermarket warranty. That aftermarket warranty started the day of purchase, so I was double covered for 8 months, which isn't as valuable as it might sound for most situations, but I was able to get my money out of it because the aftermarket warranty was better than factory warranty on electronic systems.

Yep original factory is 4/50.. But the BMW Extended warranty has not had a price change since pre-covid.. and I'm thinking if I put the $ in a 5% (at best) CD or short term bond or fund for 1 year I then still might not have enough as any BMW increase intuitively will be more than that..

My understanding is factory coverage would not end if I got an extended warranty.. Yes there would be coverage overlap.. But again argument for buying now would primarily be hedging against an increase for 2024.. which I think would be logical to happen. But WTH knows! LOL

Thanks for your reply.
