Turbo coolant line leak, the lower connection!

I was going to fix the infamous turbo coolant leak (where the connectors at the top leak onto the turbos). You have to move the lines back a little to slip on the new rubber hose. I did the supply line and everything was fine. I went to move the return line and it was really stiff to move and then suddenly it was really easy to move. Then I heard the sound of running water.

All the way down by the water pump I could see coolant streaming out. The little bastard line had snapped off the connection at the end of the return line. You can see how the plastic barb broke off inside the rubber hose.

Now the bad part is that BMW doesn't sell just the connector. No no no, They only sell the entire assembly. PN: 11538092641

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/11538092641/

100$ for a little broken connector.

Determined not to pay this I did some digging. Turns out this is a huge issue on F30s:

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1547622

I'm about 99% sure that's the same connector. Ima cut that bitch off a 18$ hose instead. PN: 17128570061

I am amazed this isn't a bigger issue reported on these forums. Ive seen one other post about this. It seems like a high failure rate item and it really should be notated on some of these other threads that are about the upper connections.

Wow, that kinda sucks but at least you were in your garage instead of in rush hour traffic, etc. Now you have me thinking I should replace that preventively. Good luck with the fix!

Regardless, i was able to repair my broken one. I will continue to search for the right fitting so I can replace it and update this thread.

When I changed my top turbo coolant lines I sliced off the old ones length ways one at a time while holding the pipe in place knowing this part that broke is fragile. The new ones slid in easier while I held that pipe in place using a little vaseline.*Caution needed when doing this with sharp box knife.

Well I sure wish I knew that lol. Nobody has mentioned it that I have seen. I think my fix should hold for now though.

Its kinda scary now seeing this 90degree connector all over the intercoolers.

I see you just looped it over the hump with a new micro hose and indeed on the parts diagram all that pipe and connection is a one piece new part with nothing available separately $$££
I'm looking with a bit of concern at those other fragile looking plastic hose inserts on the number 11 part, probably worth checking as difficult to believe a failure there would bring you to a stop.

that part is the pump for the turbo coolant. fortunately or unfortunately they are not known to last long. Mine is starting to hum so I will likely have to replace it before the connectors have a chance to break.

man you guys are awesome.

I just ordered a vacuum filler. This should give me a good excuse to do a full coolant flush/fill.

now if I can only find one of these to buy somewhere.....

A little more info on the Norma RSS NORMAQUICK PS3 part:

0702 8017 012 is the PS3 NW12 - 90º with the 6 mm bore we need and is made of PA66-GF30 (polyamide 6.6 with 30% glass fiber content)

courtesy of:

https://files.iq-parts.nl/NQ-PS3-702-8017-012.pdf

It's factory crimped onto the short piece of rubber hose, so you'd have to replace the rubber hose too, and the clamps. At that point, you should likely replace the other rubber hose also (pump end of the other pipe, as well as the hose kit at the turbos)

Supplier here:
https://www.iq-parts-shop.com/en/nor...-12-10-mm.html
(still working on a USA supplier)

I just used the same hose and clamps I used to repair the top.

I would definitely recommend replacing all of them at the same time as well.

Hi. This just happened to me too. How do I get the connector off at the bottom? Not a lot of space to work with. Is it easy to just pull it off and put the new connector on?

You need to use a pick to pull out the metal clip and then it should slide straight off.
