AC blowing warm + loud
seems my AC tapped out. symptoms point to condenser or compressor, maybe both, who knows.
my question is how much does this cost roughly at the dealer? I dont plan on doing this myself unless I have too. Also is this co sided a failure or wear and tear? i have an extended warranty and it would be great of this was covered. |

I got same thing as well. Haven't used my AC for a few month, went to turn it on and I got warm air and hissing noise. Looked all over forums and saw that the condenser is a common failure part for F10's. One person said they paid $900 at the dealer. I'm going to schedule my car to get dropped off soon.

Here in the States the new model year usually starts in Sept. So he could buy a 2007 model in the fall/winter of 2006.

The hissing noise is due to the low charge. Mine was doing that last year. I threw a can of refrigerant in and the noise went away and the AC was cold again. My guess is when I go to use the AC this year it will be warm again. I'm banking on needing a new condenser, which I will buy and install this summer when I can get my other M5 on the road. (damn DMV's are still closed in NY from the pandemic)

I had the same thing and like the others, it was the A/C condenser. Don't remember the cost off the top of my head, as my warranty covered it, but I know it's fairly involved to replace. I'd guess it was ~$750. I believe the tech said they dropped the engine.
also: not sure if this is common, but mine passed a leak test. it wasn't until they did the UV dye that they found out the condenser was the culprit. Last edited by vafan13; 05-14-2020 at 12:52 PM.. |

They don't have to drop engine, but they have to remove air box and intercooler, drop coolant and remove radiator and one of the oil coolers. Just a lot of stuff in the way.

Regardless: I think the takeaway is don't trust a passed leak test with this issue on this car. Make 'em put in some UV dye and schedule a f/up a few days later. |
