Excuse my ignorance but what is the delay in releasing the car to the US? If it has been available in Europe why not USA? Does it have something to do with emissions?

That can't be right? I know the dealers are in the dark too, but wasn't there a press release during the NYIAS stating that the Order Bank would be open the week of April 23rd (this week sometime) and that Options Guides would be available before that (a day, few hours, who knows)....seems like they should at least open for orders this week if they previously said they would.

I don't think this is true but if it is, I will just go buy a Porsche.

The US is M's biggest market (presumably because cars and gas are so cheap over here compared to the rest of the world), so I believe the M5 launched earlier in other countries so BMW could ramp up to the expected demand that would arise when it launched in the US, and also identify and fix any issues on the production line before the order onslaught. I believe that's how it's worked with past M cars too.

Well it looks like I will be heading down to the dealer today. Wish it was for ordering the new f10 m5, but going down because my eE60 got the red cog transmission failure last night. ( good thing I have the extended warranty and mtce)

Regardless I will keep you guys posted what I find out about ordering.

I'm keeping the faith. They did say the week of the 23rd, which still has 3-4 more days left.

Perhaps they don't have any of the early allocations?

My CA checked this morning and saw nothing yet either. A previous thread had a question as to whether the new Nav System had anything to do with a delay, I talked with M Brand Manager Matt Russell in December and at that time they were delaying the M5 US launch until the current timeline (April order bank, July production start, September Delivery) so they could get the new Nav implemented.

I too am keeping the faith that "the week of April 23rd" is not over!

As I understood from Matt Russell, there will be an "upgrade" to the Nav that the MY13 M5 that will be the launch vehicle for the US. I don't know about the base 5 Series but assume the upgrade will apply across The full product line.
