Best model year for F10M5

Hi all,
hope you can help here.. i am looking for used F10 M5. I know MY13 had some steering rack issues, when were those fixed? other than that and CP package in 2014 i don't see any major changes between 13-16 model years. Can you confirm which would be best year to get from price and reliability perspective?

thanks!

When I was in the market, I was considering a 13. The value for dollars was really good, exepcially below the 70k mile mark. Everyone told me to go w/ a 14+ and everything I read/researched seem to confirm that recommendation. I ended up w/ a 15, just based on a killer deal I couldn't pass up and I'm very happy I did. 14's and 15's are coming down a bit in price, personally, I'd stay away from a 13 unless you're really going to mod the hell out of it.

It all depends on your budget. Buy the best spec, lowest mileage best maintained car you can. I would make sure its no older than 2014 as the face lift was done then.

I would also try and choose a Competition Pack car as they are better and M Multifunction seats are also a must if possible

Maintenance would be very high on my must have list, not just what BMW suggest but extra oil changes also

There are a few cosmetic changes from the '13,though even the much referred to led lights were an option on the so called lci models here and I find the fitted xenons superb at night turning into bends before you do.I have an early '13 and no problems with it concerning steering rack. The only problem with all M5's is a limited life a/c condenser which were made a bit fragile.Remember you can easily make your '13 look like an lci by changing to the grille and the more modern steering wheel if it hasn't had it already. Mine already had these
*oh and the Comfort Seats are a must

2014 onwards seems to be the best bet from all my research... hence why I went super safe and went for a late 2016 competition pack.

I'm not sure on the exact date it changed across but I'd look for the bigger idrive control knob - I think this was in 2015. I don't think there was a negative feature that turned up at all during the lifecycle so newer is better.

If you can get Pure Metal Edition.
600hp, aluminum bushings, stiffer suspension.
Akrapovich exhaust.....etc

By FAR better than just standard CP.

I looked for a while for a 2016 and really wanted to get as late of a production date as possible. I finally settled on my 2016 CP with 4/2016 production date. Most of the cars I found were early 2016s made in late 2015. This paid off for me in that I found a CPO that is covered until 6/2021. Only addition I might have missed out on if I had found one even later would have been the NBT EVO iDrive, whereas mine is equipped with the NBT. I think there were a few 2016s that had the NBT EVO, but I'm not positive.
