With that said, seeing how this RS7 is so good and I know that one of these things stock can pull out a sub 3.5 second 0-60 time, I think that some may agree with me when I say that the next M5 going this route is a mistake, because the next M5 will be just like this RS7 Performance. I know it's too late now to complain about the next M5, but what M should have done is the exact opposite of what this RS7 is to keep things different and competitive. Would have been nice to have an F90 M5 with a lower displacement engine, 2 turbos, 10 cylinders, lower torque but higher horsepower, with RWD and 315 rear tires as standard. Say a 3.0L Twin Turbo V10 making 670hp and only 450tq but weighs less than 4,100lbs. With lower torque and wider tires, traction won't be much of a problem and the lower overall weight of the chassis will ensure excellent 0-60 and 60-130mph times. I should design my own Sport Sedan I think. I'd probably throw the wheels from your RS7 on it too.

I can feel your pain about the new M5... I can read it too

Dave you are changing the laws of physics for a regular street car lol ... Have you ever seen such an engine on a production car?
Oh BTW you know acceleration is coming from Force (torque) and weight not Horse Power right ? (F = m *a)... Power is there to support the acceleration or let's say continues acceleration like 1/4 mile

Haha! No I actually did well in my calculus based physics class in college.

I think what you are missing and what companies like Porsche have figured out is the m variable in the (f = m * a) equation. Or in other words, with less mass comes greater acceleration. Hence the reason why a 991 GT3RS can out accelerate an R-35 Nissan GT-R from 0-60mph, even though the GT3RS has RWD and the GT-R has AWD. Torque is what gets mass moving, but power is what moves the mass. And this is my point, no such engine has ever been tried, imagine a Twin Turbo V10 revving to at least 8,000rpm. What glorious notes that would have. I'm sorry, but the S85 engine just ruined me for almost every other car experience I have had or will ever have. Lol!

LOL... Dave believe me I know about all those stuff (F and m and a) since it's kind of my job lol....
You were talking about a 100 k street big sedan heavy car (4000+ lb) and not a 200k race light car (3000lb) like 911 GT3 which is generating only 500 HP with 4L engine (not 3L)...
So basically you need 3L 10 cylinder turbo engine to generate 600+ hp right? I asked you if you know the same engine ever made and installed on a production car ...
Also as I know the difference between RWD and AWD you need to know about the force (or torque) distribution to let car move beside the weight. even on a heavy car like M5/M6 we all have difficulty to put that power down because of RWD....
As far as the discussion about power and torque the simple equation of F= m*a says the acceleration (a) is the result of Force (rotational torque) at given weight (m). It's not talking about Power . As I said again power will be important to support the constant torque which is :P (HP) = T (lb-ft)* RPM / 5252

Oh I didn't know you moved man! I'm planning to come up to the Bay Area later this year and visit some friends and get more stuff done to the M5. We'll have to meet up and debate in person.

Maybe we should build a wall around the Mexican freeway to keep the truckers out.

Or we should import those Mexican freeways to US and put this sign everywhere

I am surprised you didn't consider the new panamera. Didn't even glance at the turbo or 4s? Any reasons why?

My sense is Vic doesn't like the styling, and also timing isn't good for buying a Panamera - you pay full price while the resale is going to drop like a brick in a few months when 2018 hits the streets.

The issue is the weight balance, the GT3 is around 63% at the rear and the M5/M6 is around 53% at the front. That makes a massive difference to the speed you can get it off the line at, as per:
