Race day follow up - which car outruns the F10 M5
Since my question in the thread below didn't generate any answers, I am posting a separate thread. I am sure many of us would like to know the answer and I was surprised by searching the forum and other sites not to find a simple chart with the answer:
Which cars outrun the F10 M5 at 0-60? I have yet to see anything but a Prius or a Sienna pull up next to me on Rt. 1 but should that RS6, Shelby or that GTR or 911 Turbo S ever show up, I want to know what I am dealing with. So please, experts in 100% stock condition 2013/14/15 models, when should I step on it and when not? How about Tesla S, the new F-Type R, the Maseratis of this world etc.? Thank you, H. |

I doubt the M5 would be able to "win" against an RS6, GTR or the 911 turbo in a straight line...Add some twisties in an I think the M5 would have the RS6 but still not the others
Tesla S: Will come down to driver F-Tyre R: M5 will win Maseratis: M5 will win |

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question, but isn't the quick impromptu 'race' on the street just a fun comparison of cars and not an ego gratifying event? Do you only "step on it" when you think you will win? To my thinking it is learning how your car compares to the car you are racing, not who will win or lose. Can't always happen of course, but the ideal situation would allow the two of you to talk to each other after the 'race' to see exactly what you've each done to the cars to improve performance. It would be good to know how that heavily modified M3 was able to walk away from you!

I would agree that the challenge is rush so although you might be sitting near the GTR you know you won't win but you hammer it just the same to give him/her a run for the money. From what I have read here are my estimations. The only one that is a sure loss is the GTR. Rs6, 911, and Shelby perhaps close and fun but M5 will probably take it. Tesla and Maserati take it to the bank.

FType R (which is coupe only) I think will beat M5 but it's not out yet so no one knows. Perhaps you are confusing with V8S.

M5 vs GTR depends on the model year of the GTR. GTR's have had a steady increase in horsepower since they came out. From a roll the F10 M5 could take the early models with 485HP. I think the new models are up to 545 so that would be a bit problematic. From a standing start, forget about it. There are quite a few powerful four wheel drive cars that could beat an M5 from zero but from a roll the M5 is pretty high up the food chain.

And you have to charge it for 12 hours where in ''normal'' cars it takes few minutes to get fuel tank full.

I am asking because I am interested in exactly the opposite. I would feel funny racing a car that I know has now chance against mine. In my opinion the thrill lies in the challenge and the secret desire to beat a GTR no matter how impossible it might be.

It will depend on who is truly stupid enough to go 100% on the public streets endangering everyone else around them. So, in truth, you will both be losers every time. Keep it to the track my friend.

I agree! Unfortunately that's been my experience with both motorcycles and cars at the track!

I think it's a pretty short list.. But with the exception of a GT-R, the cars that can consistently outperform the F10 M5 in the 1/4 mile are generally about $100k more in price. We have "expensive" company in our performance category.
