repair damaged carbon fiber clear coat?
i purchased a used mperformance spoiler from a forum member recently. he did not disclose any damage and, to my dismay, the piece arrived as shown in the pics: 3" scratch and slight crack in the clear coat. no damage to carbon fiber.
while it's under the spoiler, and not particularly visible, my ocd will know it's there and will ruin my enjoyment. i've read/watched videos that lead me to believe wet sanding, epoxy resin and polishing will fix it. i certainly would prefer not to go to that length if it can be avoided. anyone with experience or ideas? i'm looking at my tube of polywatch wondering "if it's good enough for my speed master, maybe will work on the spoiler?" thanks in advance, slightly pissed and should have bought new

If you’re like me, and you won’t be able to see anything but that flaw on your car - cut your losses and get a new one. Any/all repairs will be costly and imperfect.

appreciate the input, guys.
i spent some time working on it and got it to a point where both scratches are far less visible up close and not at all from a few feet away. that said, i bought a fresh one and will be reselling the updated one at a steep discount.

bumping my own thread back up lol.
ended up changing my mind and went with a high kick m performance style spoiler from a forum sponsor - to be "different". the quality and fit is good. so, there's that. living with it for awhile now, I'm thinking that the kick of the oem mperformance spoiler is plenty and what I have now is too aggressive. I already have the rk style front spoiler and picking up the mperformance style center diffuser so idk that a carbon spoiler is needed at all without any other bits "around" it. which leads me to the question: given that the mperformance spoiler referenced earlier in the thread has slight damage, is there any reason why I could not get it painted Singapore grey? thinking having the painted mperformance spoiler and carbon bits on the lower portion of the car will look good. thoughts? you can check out the current spoiler here: https://f10.m5post.com/forums/showpo...postcount=4275 appreciate feedback colin

I personally would not paint it body colour, it would give the impression of front being too big.
With me it would be satin black to not stand out or fill in the slight damage and use a steady hand to reform the carbon effect with matching paint and ultra thin delicate picture paint brush. |
